"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice."

I feel the malice phrase I can address, can I safely ignore the other words?

If you you really want to handle them all; Ask God the Father to take it away. He will look into your heart and see if you really want it gone. Speaking from experience.

No. Trust in the Lord and abandon your own understanding. Seek Him to teach you how to overcome, and He will be pleased to do this very thing. It won't be easy, my friend. You will be tested, sorely at times, for this is how we learn to overcome in Jesus Christ. Prepare yourself for the trials to come. :)

All are unrighteousness. What would you say to that?

James 1:

19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear,

slow to speak, slow to wrath;

20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Of course you can ignore any of God's word you want . But I can see you are already in the battle, so who do you listen to, the flesh or the spirit. The one that wins is the one you feed the most. Do you sow to the flesh, or feed the flesh,  and get bitter and angry so the flesh wins and the 'flesh' (YOU) feel good.   Or do you feed the spirit, eating God's word, especially about this situation you are concerned with, answering in a soft answer. Feed on the answer below, the next scripture after you scripture. God knows how you feel and that is why he gave us the answer below to feed upon, think about, and make a stand.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

HOW??

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
Ephesians 4:31-32/ 5-1

One can do so, with or without God's word being received and embraced; but without malice what is there to be bitter about, enraged over or brawling with that will manifest itself with/by addition of slander and libel?

What is gained that may be put up as treasure in heaven within any of it? Embrace the faith of Jesus, give thanks and praise to God in all things, all things, all things. For that is where the glory of God is to be seen heard and felt deep within one's own spirit.

May God bless with forgiveness overflowing from the heart towards all that would become adversaries,  leaving no room nor any  vacancy for angst that demons love to embrace and dwell under.

Do more than clear out one's own house, fill it anew immediately! Fill it with "dancing" praise to God.

Why this is so important cannot be understated.

Knowing where these originate:

James 3:16 For where envy and self-seeking exist,

confusion and every evil thing are there

Understanding then that allowing rage, brawling etc... to go

without being dealt with, you are one outburst, one lashing out

from assault, even murder.

1 John 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer,

and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

true, remember

1 Samuel 29:4

But the Philistine commanders were angry with Achish and said, “Send the man back, that he may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle, or he will turn against us during the fighting.

I'm just saying. It's easier to pay attention to your character now. than when you're in the fight.

I wouldn't say ignore exactly, but remember the two great commandments? Jesus told us that the law revolved around them. It makes perfect sense, too. If you love God and your neighbor you won't be doing wrong against them and if there are accidents it's okay.

The thing is no malice alone falls short of the mark. A neighbor who doesn't have any ill will toward you is nice, but that doesn't mean they'd go out of their way to be good to you in or out of a time of need. Looking to the standards of other cultures for a moment, the so called silver rule of Confucius is "Don't do to others what you wouldn't want them doing to you." but the golden rule of Jesus is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." The former is passive and operates on no malice, or at least keeping it in check, whereas the rule Jesus gave us points toward being active and proactive. That meshes well with loving your neighbor as yourself.
