GENEVA/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – The world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator is set to smash protons together on April 8, the day millions of people across America hope to catch a glimpse of one of the biggest solar eclipses in decades.

Scientists not mentioning God as a possibility say they want to search for the “invisible particles” that are “secretly powering our universe.”

Their theories suggested 17 different particle groups, and the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, claimed the existence of one using its Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2012.

The accelerator sits 300 feet (91 meters) underground at the border of France and Switzerland and first went live on September 10, 2008.

Scientists began preliminary tests by sending billions of protons around the LHC’s ring of superconducting magnets to boost their energy and ensure the $4 billion machine was worth the money and in working condition.

On April 8, CERN wants to shoot them down a 17-mile-long tunnel (27.3 kilometers) at nearly “the speed of light” to “recreate” conditions a second after what they claim was “the Big Bang” with which the universe allegedly began.

The Bible says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

WHAT BEFORE BIG BANG?

Scientists acknowledge that the question “What came before the Big Bang?” is outside the realm of science.

However, CERN is convinced that a “tremendously powerful genesis of space-time” sent matter and energy reeling outward, leading to the universe’s current state, including Earth, over billions of years.

Yet, so far, not all went according to plan to prove their thesis. On March 8, teams from around the world waited inside the underground laboratory outside Geneva, Switzerland, to glimpse beams circling inside the LHC ring.

The circular shape would allow for more time to accelerate the beam of particles so higher energy can be reached, experts said.

But this month’s effort proved the beam trajectory was off as it did complete a full circle.

Yet after tinkering with the mechanics, the team “watched in wonder” as the beam circled the accelerator in less than 20 minutes.

And at full power, trillions of protons will race around the LHC accelerator ring 11,245 times a second and travel just seven miles per hour less than the speed of light, organizers said.

WATCHING A RARE SPECTACLE

The April 8 experiment comes as above-ground sky watchers in 15 states crisscrossing the United States will get the best view of a rare spectacle: they will be in the so-called “path of totality” — a 115-mile-wide zone (185 kilometers) where the moon will completely block the afternoon sun for 2 to 4 minutes.

Yet scientists already cautioned that much more money is needed to solve the mysteries of the universe: they submitted proposals for a new $21 billion atom-smasher.

European countries that are full members of CERN and others, such as the United States and Japan, are asked to share the bill.

The Future Circular Collider (FCC) will be a 56.5-mile (91-kilometer) circular tunnel buried deep underground at the Swiss-French border.

That is triple the size of the 16.6-mile (26.7 kilometers) Large Hadron Collider at the same site.

The Higgs Boson, also known as the “God Particle,” was first detected there in 2012, scientists believe.
