I'm confused about the beginning part of Psalms 23? The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want... Does this mean I don't want to my Lord to be my shepherd? it does not make sense. I'm confused about the beginning part of Psalms 23? The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want... Does this mean I don't want to my Lord to be my shepherd? it does not make sense. It means "I will have need of nothing". So because the Lord is my shepherd, I have no worries. Indeed. The word "want" in the orginial text is defined as such. 1) to lack, be without, decrease, be lacking, have a need a) (Qal) 1) to lack 2) to be lacking 3) to diminish, decrease b) (Piel) to cause to lack c) (Hiphil) to cause to be lacking Phillipians 4 "19": But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Peace.

What's funny is that I also used to be confused about this Scripture but I agree with what most people are saying about it.

So there's no need for you to not be satisfied. The next verses in that chapter explain the 1st version. Edited March 25, 2006 by ZhenQing
