Hello! I'm confused about the beginning part of Psalms 23?

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want...

Does this mean I don't want to my Lord to be my shepherd? it does not make sense.

It means "I will have need of nothing". So because the Lord is my shepherd, I have no worries.

Indeed. The word "want" in the orginial text is defined as such.

1) to lack, be without, decrease, be lacking, have a need

a) (Qal)

1) to lack

2) to be lacking

3) to diminish, decrease

b) (Piel) to cause to lack

c) (Hiphil) to cause to be lacking

Phillipians 4

"19": But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Peace.

I remember thinking the same thing. Why wouldn't I want the Lord?

Thanks for the post.

Blessings, kamusat

You shall not lack for any good thing.

Psalm 23 is a wonderful chapter to show the relationship of the Church and Christ.

What's funny is that I also used to be confused about this Scripture but I agree with what most people are saying about it.

It simply means if you have God, you have everything. So there's no need for you to not be satisfied. The next verses in that chapter explain the 1st version.

Here's a clip from James 1.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations. Knowing this that the trying of your faith worketh patience. And let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Thanks for your answers on the I shall not want part of this passage. I realize now that it means He is my provider. I'm thankful for that understanding.

My next question about this passage

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies

Why does God set a table before me where I will sit with the presence of my enemies?
