Gosh I feel the SAME way. I am so used to the TV. I did hear on the radio about a new thing that Tivo is doing. Gosh, for the life of me and I can't remember all of it. There is a new feature they now offer. It has something to do with filtering content! I'm planning on finding out some more information about this! I don't think its going to be exactly like a V-chip or anything, maybe better... I'm going to check it out though.

Your not doing your kids any favors by sheltering them from the world. God does not take you from the filth in this world but teaches you to overcome it! Now there is a balance in all things. Just use common sence.

Grace and Peace be unto you!

Anyone is welcome to come and watch my tele any time, day or night and I bet you won't see any filth. There is probably more filth coming out of the mouths of your work mates. Haven't you got a remote that will switch it off?

Well I am from South Africa and we get some SERIOUSLY dodgy stuff on TV. I have turned the tv on at about 21:00 on a Friday and seen seriously pornographic stuff. Im mean, what 12 year old kid isnt awake at that time?! And then there is Saturday nights. After 12 there is full blown porn that any child can watch behind their parents backs.

Something needs to be said to the TV station managers!

I agree that there is a lot of filth out there but you have to pick what you are going to watch. You have the ability to change the channel. We have no kids so the news and things like that are what we watch. One of my favorites is M*A*S*H* It's fun and no filth. As I said you just have to pick what you watch.

I agree that you can change the channel but what if you arent there. The children can watch this stuff and kids will be curious. I guess all we can do is tell them about the danger of watching that kind of stuff. We cant always be there to protect them but we can try or best.

Fine if you have control over the TV. Then you can turn off a film where there is an average of eight "f" words every 30 seconds (this seems to be mandatory with a lot of the films made in the last few years, I don't know why they do it, what they're trying to prove).

I just don't watch TV at all as there is absolutely nothing on that I want to watch, and I can get better news coverage from the computer or the papers. I work from 4pm to midnight, when the worst of the programming is on, but lately because of the weather we have had no work and this will probably last until after the spawning season so I have been at home and in the evenings, the TV dominates the whole house.

I listen to the mindless drivel and swearing while I am trying to concentrate on something else, but there is nothing I can do about it, my kids are adults and I can imagine their reaction if I tried to turn the receiver off. To "reason with them" about the programmes they watch is only inviting antagonism. The only thing I can do is hope and pray that the rest of the family will see that what they are watching is evil. Somehow I don't hold out much hope.

One alternative though is the "history channel". They have become interested in this lately and it has some good programmes on - some rubbish too (like an "indepth analysis of the Da Vinci Code) - but usually good programmes about genuine history.

And if "there was more filth coming out of the mouths of my workmates", I'd get new workmates.

I'm appauled at what I find my two little boys watching on television. I use internet filtering software but I dont have any control over the television. Does anybody else think there is a probably when it comes to tv and children?

Sex sells and it seems that is all that is cared about when people make tv shows/movies. I get disturbed when I am watching a movie and all of a sudden WHAM, naked sex scenes that really have nothing to do with the movie.

There is definitely a problem, but YOU are the adult, YOU are the one responsible for them. If something isn't suitable for them, turn it off. You could always put a DVD/video on for them, or encourage them to read a book instead.

I totally agree Constant.

I watch very little TV now. The only things I really watch are The Simpsons and Neighbours. I also watch Heartbeat and Casualty with my parents when they're on. If something looks interesting I'll watch it (there was a programme on about The Battle of the Somme on Sunday, which was really interesting. I have a keen interest in history, especially when it comes to the world wars) or record it but most of the time I don't even think about watching TV. I'd much rather read a book or sit outside.

I want to comment on Burnett's Post (a few back) about what she heard on the radio. Yes, it was Tivo and, yes, it's for their new feature Kidzone. I happen to have this. It works great. Not only can I block (select) programs that I don't approve of, but it helps me (through guides) find programs that I may find acceptable. I always felt like there was filth on TV but I could never bring myself to get rid of it because I did find some shows beneficial. Simply put, I just have more control then ever.

I also use Kidzone, I think its wonderful! I can't believe how helpful it is to be perfectly honest. I doesn't just use a rating and block certain things, programs can be selected. its really cool.
