Old Timer

I didn't put words in your mouth only responded to the words that came out of your mouth in post # 53 in your response which you gave.

OC

Ok, I see what you mean. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

With reference to my post #53:

Christ was dead in the grave for three days and nights. During that time His spirit returned to God and was safely kept until it was returned to Christ

Hello, OC. I think I fully grasp what you are saying in your last post. The view that you state is held by many but you must also be aware that even biblical scholars that do not believe in soul sleep would take issue with your interpretation of some of the verses you mention, especially Ephesians 4.

Your last paragraph comes as a bit of a surprise when you say,

Hello, Butero,

I can take up Lazarus and the rich man at another time but I will conclude my discussion of the Transfiguration here.

This event is described in Matthew 16:27 to 17:13, Luke 9:27 to 9:36 and Mark 9:1 to 9:10.

In all three of these narratives Jesus says as in Luke,

He was made alive "by the Spirit" after three days!

Old Timer

He descended "first" into the lower parts of the earth. Ephesians 4:8

Colossians 2:15 -- "And having spoiled principalities and powers he made a show of them openly triumphing over them in it."

That show was witnessed in 1 Corinthians 15:4-8 that was an outward show as those spirits came up with Christ from the tomb on that third day as Christ spoiled principalities and the powers of Satan triumphing over them in the resurrection of the dead. The proof was in the captives that was led captive by Christ in Ephesians 4:8 as he led them up on high with Him.

Revelation 1:18 --"I am he that liveth and was dead and behold I am alive forevermore Amen and have the keys of hell and of death."

At our deaths our spirits can no longer be held bound by Satan for Jesus brought our total freedom in this life from the bondage of our sins and from the bondage of being held prisoner after death. As Christ made a show of Satan openly when he rose on the third day.

Isaiah 53:12

Ephesians 6:12

OC, we do not agree on Ephesians 4. I gave my reasoning in post #65 above. If you do not see my point as stated there, then so be it.

Col. 2:15? I fail to see how that speaks to this subject. Christ defeated Satan by His sacrifice and resurrection.

Col. 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

You mention 1 Cor. 15:4-8 which says:

1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

This is speaking of those that saw Christ AFTER He was resurrected. Notice it says that some of these have since died, fallen asleep.

He was see by Paul on the road to Damascus.

You say,
