Sad it is that some kind folk continue to pit gender vs. gender when (re salvation in Christ Jesus & His wonderful gift of everlasting life), in Him there is NO male or female. And too, Paul gives divine guidance, does he not, in his Epistles re conduct one to another as well as expected charactistics emulating Christ? BTW, Jesus doesn't call us "to religion," but rather to Himself as Redeemer & Lord. AMEN & AMEN! http://arthurdurnan.freeyellow.com

He was saying that certain selective readings of the Bible were what stopped discussion about the role of women in the church, and while he condemned the Muslim cleric's language, tone and message, he was making the point that even though the controversy was politer and 'more sophisticated,' it was still centered around the same idea of women being lesser. Now. The point was not that all Christian women are subjugated, nor what the Bible says in other parts about equality. The idea being put forward was essentially that those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - not because all Christians or all Churches degrade women, but because the potential for such a misreading or intrepretation exists, and is used as the reason by many churches for why women cannot be ordained. The archbishop was saying that if the church thinks that women are not capable or able to be ordained, then at base, isn't this showing a similar kind of prejudice to that of the cleric? The archbishop himself is an advocate of women in the church; he dislikes the idea of inequality wherever it is. And the debate I was trying to ellict was what people thought about the role of women in the church and whether or not it was a form of discrimination - and if not, then what was the reason for it. Perhaps I should've made that clearer, but I would've thought that was apparent.
