Jesus is the end of the law, and in him the law is fulfilled through LOVE, love one another. Do unto others as you would do unto God. What is flesh is flesh, what is spirit is spirit. I read that book and it was so sad. It ends saying '"at that time the people did whatever they thought was right" It reminded me a great deal of today when I read it. I think it serves as a good example blast from the past of what people are like when left to their own devices to live how they(flesh) want. God bless. The Holy Spirit is the Only way to walk in the spirit. It is the only way that you can desern what is carnal from what is spiritual, In Romans chapter 7, and chapter 8 you'll notice that Paul is contrasting between 2 laws, we are freed from our sins, and sin is condemed to our flesh rather than our spirit, through Jesus Christ's offering and providing us with the Holy Spirit. We can discern between the carnal and the spiritual, and The Lord makes known to us how to walk in spirit. I would only add when we are given the Holy Spirit we are more inclined to see the deceitfulness of sin, all sin is deceptive, and a lie I have found that when tempted, I rebuke the lie and it has been much easier to overcome the temptation of the sin

I dont neccessarily buy that our spirit goes befores us and commits the deed and then our flesh follows......But one thing I must say concerning what happens to our spirit when we sin.....most everything was said above...my own experience was that when i fell I had to start over again that is in my spiritual walk....but that is not so in retrospect..I would feel so bad for falling....satan would come in at that point of guilt and really bash me into believing that Gods spirit had left me and that I had to start my spiritual walk with the Lord all over...this is not so; Gods spirit never left me and there is no such thing as start over...God bought us at a price...He didnt just buy our good stuff He bought all our stuff good and bad ...God is going to deal with all these things and Gods' work in us is permenant....one encounter with God and a person just wont be the same .... I would say the sin takes place in the mind first, then the body acts on what the mind has already given freedom to experience much the same way pornography holds someone in addiction, they allow pornographic thoughts to be lived out in their mind and they have no power to stop going to pornographic sights I speak from experience, once someone takes control over their thoughts, and holds every thought captive to Christ, the flesh is very easy to control, but the initial battle for control over your mind is very difficult if you never had tried to filter your thoughts through Jesus
