What happened was lincoln waged a illegal war on a soveriegn nation that exercised their soverign right to succeed from this republic and in doing so he suspended the constitution and changed it and the form of government we had. Since then, changes were made to further push us in the direction of a democracy which brings us closer to failure. The public has found out that they can vote themselves raises out of the treasury and were on our way to destruction.

Everyone acts like a Republic is a wonderful thing...and it's not. It HAS to be mixed with Democracy or it only lasts a couple hundred years before leading to tyranny. Likewise, it ceases all individual rights, or at least does not promise individual rights.
