Isn't this a no-brainer? Put a stop to it, NOW, PERIOD.

There's a lot more people that agree with this than don't. At least here in Texas, where we are bombarded, and sick of paying for it.

Not many here in Canada agree with you there. We have a huge immigrant population. It makes us what we are: diverse, tolerant, interesting and wonderful. It should be the same with you.

Now look at that - we found something to agree with.

I knew there must be SOMETHING! :24:

Mr&Mrs Mike Irish ... I agree with your post. It's absolute poor stewardship to leave borders wide open for God only knows what to come in. I believe it is a curse on the land, certainly not a blessing.

Put a bird feeder in your yard and fill it with bird seed.

It doesn't take long before the birds learn that a free meal is in the

offing. They come by the hundreds.

Now, empty the feeder. What happens? No more birds.

Take away the free medical care. Take away the free schooling. Take

away the free welfare. Take away the jobs. What happens?

No more illegals. WOW!! What a simple solution!

No need for a border fence at the cost of hundreds of millions of tax

dollars.

Do you think this could work?

I think that what you are trying to say here comes off as a bit cruel to some, but I don't believe that cruelty is the intent of your post at all. I think that you are essentially trying to convey the thought of "Eliminate the source of the issue and the problem will go away."

The problem with such a solution is really to complex to go into detail. We can come up with solutions to reduce the number of illegals that take advantage of the welfare system in this country, but that's not going to eliminate or reduce the number of illegals that come into our country to find a better life for themselves. They are going to come regardless.

A fence, tighter security, and higher penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants is going to help reduce the numbers. Also, a MAJOR overhaul of the immigration system - from the ground up - is way overdue and seriously needed. You can't fix a hole in a dam with a piece of bubblegum, and that's pretty much what immigration has done for the past 40 years. They need a system and a workforce that's going to be able to efficiently deal with the number of people that want to come into this country legally so that others will choose to take that way, instead of spending thousands of dollars for some "mule" to bring them here illegally.

The system needs to be comprehensive and not merely a temporary fix to make people happy for a little while, until the system once again breaks down.

Something to consider:

How could one make it more attractive for people to immigrate LEGALLY? If it seemed like a better idea to them to immigrate legally, maybe more would do it (and yes, this would include educating them on WHY it would be a better idea to immigrate legally).

One more bird metaphor:

If there's no bird feeder, the birds are more likely to go for the seeds you worked hard to plant.

Well, for one thing, death is a pretty good motivator. It's less likely for someone to die waiting in the immigration line as opposed to in the desert (Although those lines are pretty long, I hear).

Another: illegals pay thousands of dollars per person for "mules" to get them across the boarder and into America.
