Easy. the want to purposely lose, tell the world we tried and leave it a bigger mess and threat than when we started. Works for liberals.

It would make Bush look bad, and hopefully for them, help them win in 2008. It wouldn't matter to them what they had to do, or who had to get hurt, or how much damage it did to the country, in order to accomplish this.

I listened to a small group of young men discussing the war today (the main speaker had recently returned from a tour in Iraq). A soldier's viewpoint is more reflective of stratigy, equipment, and professionalism than overall results. Our military has done a brilliant job in a vile and confused situation.

War is a very unproductive exercise, but the necessity of fighting this one is really no longer the point.

Now the question actually is, " Are we helping them to get established as a peaceful society?" The effort is quite noble, but the fact that the majority of the population serve devils and live a religion of hatred and murder, and then, just to spice things up, they hate each other that are of the main divisions of the murderous religion they embrace. They are COMPELLED by what they believe to murder one another and to destabilize any government that is not a muslim religious governement.

If we stay there for centuries, will we be able to do for them what the general population (moved by radical religious leaders) does not want done?

On the political points, the Democrats appear to desire failure now (for political motives) while the Republicans appear to be unable to admit that noble intentions can't necessarily alter reality on the ground. At some point we will leave. At some point they will explode into a murderous madness that is the result of believing a lie, and unless Jesus comes, there is nothing short of a mass conversion that will change the end result.

Look at the other muslim groups. They are all either boiling over with hatred and murder, or preparing to.

If we leave quickly, the explosion will be more sudden, and if we leave slowly, the explosion will await the opportunity of reduced military presence. The last guys to leave might have a difficult exit indeed.

I recommend prayer.

Unfortunately, I believe you're right. Islam has never built anything, never accomplished anything, and never will until they see the monumental lie they believe in for what it really is. Our military is the finest on earth but.....even they can't make civilized people of barbarians who still stone people.

Democrats have been politicising the war and misinforming Americans because we all know that the Republicans can run a war much better than the party that hates the military.

And their strategy has almost worked. It did cause Republicans to lose the mid-term elections and every Republican began distancing themselves from Bush over it. Once Rumsfeld was gone, things started to slowly change in Iraq as they implemented the "surge"

However, it is still a political hot potato that is hurting Republicans so Bush is doing the reduction mostly as a symbolic measure to help Republicans win the next set of elections...but also the all-volunteer military is stretched to the limits and it will boost moral for some of our boys to have the hope of going home.

But I think the reason we were under-manned in the first place was because more troops makes for more targets for terrorists to pick off and would also alienate Iraqis who resent any occupation at all.

Since we've planned to turn it over to the Iraqis all along anyway, this is a good opportunity for Bush to take the issue away from Democrats
