This parable is used to make doctrinal points on Heaven and Hell. Oppossing view point will often declare that this was a created story by Jesus to confront the Pharisees about their hardheartedness. Is this "once upon time" method or Jesus recounting of an actual event?

Where is it written that parables can't use names? Many people today use names in fictional stories or jokes. Why not a parable? Some jokes even incorporate the names of the audience or someone the audience knows for effect. Could it be that Jjesus used the name for effect? Other people may choose to use names in fiction, and it is common place for such things. what some people also call parables are actually fables..... fables also have life lessons as parables do, but may use animals or other objects to take the place of people. they may even incorporate witches, worlocks, fairies, elves and such.... in the story of Lazarus, this is the only one i recall that Christ used a name, Lazarus, and Abraham. mike
