"There is nothing about the soil that would preclude life. In fact it seems very friendly," said Samuel Kounaves, the project's lead chemist at the University of Arizona in a telephone press conference. "The soil you have there is the type of soil you have in your backyard," said Kounaves. "You may be able to grow asparagus very well." Now they only need to locate a more temperate region, say at the base of a volcano or near thermal vents or something. They will have to find a source of geothermal heat to be able to create the right environment for plants to grow. Plant growth will allow for possible colonization but only a slim chance to terra-form at this point.

Guest
I will believe it when they actually start farming Mars, and bring back the crops. We both know that won't happen, Butero. The Liberals would be screaming about screwing up the (airless, waterless) Martian environment! Besides, who wants Martian asparagus? Can't stand the stuff!
