VICTORY: Last Abortion Clinic in South Dakota Closes

7/25/2008

LifeSiteNews (www.lifesitenews.com)

Planned Parenthood closed its doors after their abortionists, who are flown in from other states, refused to work under the new law.

SIOUX FALLS, SD (LifeSiteNews) - On Monday, July 21, eight women arrived at the Planned Parenthood office in Sioux Falls in South Dakota for abortions, but were instead met with locked doors and a hand-written note indicating the only abortion clinic in South Dakota was closed.

Planned Parenthood closed its doors after their abortionists, who are flown in from other states, refused to work under the new law that went into effect last Friday.

The law orders abortionists to inform patients of the humanity of their babies and that the procedure could affect their mental health two hours before the abortion is set to be performed.

The law also provides that abortionists can be sued if they do not comply.

This law was the brain-child of attorney Harold Cassidy and passed with the help of determined pro-life leaders Dr. Alan and Leslee Unruh, who pushed for the regulation in the face of opposition, even from some in the pro-life movement. The Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals cleared the way for the law's enactment last week.

It remains unclear if the Planned Parenthood office has permanently ceased the practice of abortion. However, several women who were scheduled for abortions this week went to a pro-life center instead, where some have reportedly changed their minds about having abortions.

"The closing of this clinic is historic in that South Dakota is, for the time being, the first abortion-free state," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

"It didn't take the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and it didn't take a new President or a new Supreme Court. It took the courageous determination of pro-life heroes like Mr. Cassidy and the Unruhs who saw an opportunity to save lives and pressed on until their dream became victory."

"We applaud their efforts and encourage other states to emulate their campaign," said Newman.

The Unruhs are currently involved in the Vote Yes For Life Campaign, which would effectively ban abortions in South Dakota, putting the finishing nail in the coffin of the abortion industry there.

This is wonderful news. I pray other states will also consider doing the same. I love the way they titled it. Informed Consent Statute. How appropriate. It only makes sense that these women are fully informed before they are allowed to make such a decision. This statute does not remove their right to decide but ensures they are adequately informed prior to be allowed to make it. They should also be informed about all the programs and aid that is available to them. One might hope that once these women were fully aware of the costs, the risks and all available options that they would chose not to abort.

The flip side to this is that there will be more children being raised by the state, in foster care and going up for adoption. I have heard it said that our birth rate in the U.S. has been on a decline but this is mainly due to the large numbers of abortions. If we can reduce or eliminate abortions this would not be the case however it would inevitably contribute to an increased number of orphans.

Why does what appears to be a fairly reasonable law mean this abortion clinic has closed? If it's legal to have an abortion in South Dakota providing the provisions of this law are met, why is the clinic shut? Why won't the physicians perform the perfectly legal operation? Can anyone explain this to me? :emot-hug:

That is one thing about abortions I always thought went against the right of the offensive mothers who chose to terminate their child's life. All other surgical procedures must be explained, and consent must be granted. I wasn't entirely sure if this were the case or not, but I had heard the proper education and consent that must be provided prior to other surgical procedures did not apply to abortions. The murdering mothers are wicked, but they deserve the same rights of protection as everyone else. It's appauling women's groups do not agree. Plus, it will help save lives.

Hellelujah! Thank-You Jesus! :emot-hug:

(It's so refreshing to hear good news for a change. :( )

The answer was given in the article:

Planned Parenthood closed its doors after their abortionists, who are flown in from other states, refused to work under the new law that went into effect last Friday.

The law orders abortionists to inform patients of the humanity of their babies and that the procedure could affect their mental health two hours before the abortion is set to be performed.

The law also provides that abortionists can be sued if they do not comply.

The workers at the clinic did not want to inform their patients that their babies were human beings and that having an abortion can have negative side-effects. They closed the clinic themselves!

(Tells you a lot about these people, doesn't it?)

They don't want their patients to know the truth. Abortion doctors thrive on the ignorance of their patients. They will say something different, I'm sure. They will probably talk about principles or some such garbage. :emot-hug:

Yeah, I saw that they closed the clinic themselves. My question was, why won't they work under these legal terms? If what they're doing is ok - and in their minds it must be else they wouln't do it - why not comply with the law?

Personally I've no issue with abortion and don't think people should be forbidden from having them, within reasonable legal constraints. This law from South Dakata seems quite reasonable. Why aren't the doctors performing the operation as reasonable?

It's astounding to me that women's groups who claim to be supportive of women's rights are against them receiving informed consent for a surgical procedure. That right there needs to be stated loudly and repeated, forcing them to respond because there is no humane response. This begs the question of their true agenda because it's not about women. Men have to be properly consented prior to every procedure while women are not and the equal rights groups are for that. That is not equality!

I need to do something- write letters to congressmen and women's groups. It's beyond me to set up a foundation, so I won't do that, but I need to shut up and actually do something.
