New Gay Cable Station

Just heard on the radio this morning that MTV will be launching a new station on cable specifically for gay, lesbian and transgendered people. It's gay T.V.!

Apparently MTV has been going back and forth on this for a couple of years, but now it's really going to happen,

....Yet another reason I don't have cable.

i couldn't live without cable, personally. we only get four local stations and they don't come in worth a darn without cable. i need my nightly fix of fox news, forensic files, and impact: stories of survival, and other similar shows!

BUT... i watch very little else. MTV is horrible. it doesn't surprise me that they're doing this, because many cable stations have promoted gay shows. it was only a matter of time before someone launched a whole station dedicated to homosexuality.

i have a teenage daughter still at home, and i must say i'm very grateful that she also despises MTV. in fact, she doesn't really care much for television at all, except for Gilmore Girls.

Again, thank God for TiVo.

If I don't prerecord it, there is a 99% chance I won't watch it at all.

And with satellite you can block out any channel you don't want even being listed. So as to keep young children's eyes from being tempted.

This would be why I have blocked MTV, SpikeTV, and Univision, etc. My kids won't be watching that stuff, and I don't need the Spanish channels.

Needless to say that the Gay TV network will be blocked should it every pop up on DirecTV. Why does it not surprise me that an entity of Viacom is going forward with this. Viacom has the most degrading programming of any company out there.

There is a link to an article you can read. Granted it's from San Francisco, so you can just guess at how they are looking at this proposal.

what really bites is that subscribers of cable or sattelite have to PAY for these channels, whether they're blocked or not! seems to me that cable and sattelite companies, instead of having packages to choose from, should create packages such as choose 10, 20, 50, or 150 channels you want to watch... people could pay for whatever number of channels they wanted, but would get to customize those channels to suit their preferences.

Ya know what?...I think I'm gonna call Direct Tv and tell them if they can't take Mtv out of my package then I am going to cancel their service. Lady C has the right idea...we should be able to CHOOSE what channels we want and not pay a share for those we don't approve. Wonder if they would give me a discount :x: Whoa had to step back out of la la land for a second...what was I thinking.
