Rev 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

the word for penny in strongs is:

G1220

δηνάριον

dēnarion

day-nar'-ee-on

Of Latin origin; a denarius (or ten asses): - pence, penny [-worth].

this scripture just popped in my head a few weeks ago and its been floating around in there every since.

Hi Godfearer

Is this where we are headed? World economic collapse seems like it is right on our doorstep, and it may very well be, but let it come, because God is on our side. We don't know the times or seasons. We just need to strengthen, by faith, our relationship with Jesus.

soshine, that waskinda the point of this post.

i actually researched it futher since the post and have found anothr very close amount of equality to the greek/latin derived word above. it is an attic weight or attic drachma. it is properly as much as one can hold in thier hand. considering how much ten donkeys would cost nowadays and the measure(as much as you can hold in your hand) i would say that is some heavy inflation.

my refrences are:

cassells new latin dictionary

vines

liddell and scott greek-english lexicon.

It was the days wage for 12 hours of work.

Blue Letter Bible - Lexicon

It was the principal silver coin of the Roman empire. From the parable of the labourers in the vineyard, it would seem that a denarius was then the ordinary pay for a day's wages.
