Unveiled women were an offensive sight in the first century, as it is today in strict Muslim societies. Paul was simply trying to establish some order in the church. Veiling was an issue only because of their culture, in my opinion. I am contentious about this because I think Christians should distance themselves from Muslims and others who degrade women and make women wear tents over their bodies. Veiling means nothing to me or my society. Paul was clear that veiling was not obligatory. I would go further and say that in Western societies it could even be detrimental. Can you win the lost dressed in a tent or heavily veiled? No way. So, what was Paul saying, Edited December 4, 2008 by KC02

The liberal lifestyle change in the church and fashion has simply cast the practice aside over time . . . because they do not understand. The addition of a complete veil is a whole other mater. Veiling means nothing to me or my society. I don't think they're talking about burkas. 1 Corinthians 11 15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering. Most women I know, don't look like cousin "IT".

Most women wear a scarf on the top of their heads - some the long scarfs that drape on the sides. Where I go to church, the ones that wear them put them on at the beginning of a prayer. No one is supposed to be looking then, anyway.

Scarfs and long hair are fine, but it should be a personal choice if not dictated by society. How far do you take this "person choice" when applying God's word?
