Then again, a guy can have weapons stockpiled, carrying multiple guns, even have one in his hand, squeezing the trigger, and be picked off from behind by a perp who would never kill anybody except he found you aiming for his buddy so he decided to save his buddy. My hope isn't of this world, and being killed by a perp will result in finally going home. A gun could be useful, or, it could even hasten your demise simply by having one in your hands when the perps come.

Trump: I'm a 'smart person'
hmbld replied to OldSchool2's topic in Most Interesting News Developments
Its not even funny any more how Trump is attacked when he stated he just does not want repeat information every day, keep him updated when something important changes. Obama supposedly attends briefings via his phone as you say, or I read where he takes them on a digital tablet. I should probably stay out of the political threads here, too much bashing, not enough truth telling, and certainly not edifying. You can keep correcting the errors, though nobody is listening, ears are too tickled with dirt, even when its not true. -
Not my point at all, yes, scripture does indeed instruct us to help other people. How many people did you or your churches mission group kill to help someone? I believe the argument for a pastor(or anyone) needs to have a gun is based on a worldly basis. Do we have the right to self defense? Absolutely. In the U.S. we have the right to own guns. Many around the world would be breaking the law if they owned a gun. So guns appear to me, to not be a God given right, as we are instructed to obey the laws. Can a pastor have a gun? Sure.
-
Absolutely. My point, is there is a lot of "what if" scenarios brought up, indicating a man is worth nothing if he is not prepared to kill to protect his wife and children, even when I live in a relatively safe place. If your motivation is compassion for women and children, are you providing weapons designed for killing to people around the world to save women and children who are being killed presently, why or why not?
-
Shall I start buying guns and ammo for all the christians worldwide who are being persecuted and murdered? Does anyone here, why or why not? I have no need of a gun for protection, I live quite safely compared to many around the world. If your motivation is compassion for the women and children, has anyone had compassion for the women and children who don't live in a safe, protected land, or are we only concerned with protecting our families who, statistically speaking, are incredibly carnally safe already?

Not quite the same thing as being prepared to take another's life to save your own, but nice story!

Trump: I'm a 'smart person'
hmbld replied to OldSchool2's topic in Most Interesting News Developments
All this bashing over nothing. One of the articles showed Obama prefers to get his briefings on a digital tablet. Trump only said he didn't want to waste time hearing the same briefing repeated daily, he instructed Pence and his cabinet to keep him updated with any important changes, makes perfect sense to me, all while he has no power to do anything about any intel gained, the whole world could change before he takes office, maybe Trump is smart enough to know he better have his staff set up and running and all his ducks in a row before he takes office, so he can efficiently deal with the huge spectrum the office of Potus entails. Trump has a lifetime of experience to know it takes a lot of groundwork before the business opens its doors. But thats ok, the Trump basing will continue, without any merit whatsoever. Are christians to be any beacon of hope at all, or are we to speak as the world does, tearing everyone else down? We are well past merely expressing concerns, -
And after Jacob had the dream of the ladder to heaven, he woke up and poured oil on the rock he just used for a pillow: Genesis 28:18-22 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, 21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God: 22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Interesting, I've not noticed before when praying or fasting, to do it silently or behind your door before the Lord, that the line "put oil on you head" was there. Matthew 6:16-18 16“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

2 Kings 2:4-6 2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” 3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” 5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. Mark 6:12-13 12 They went out and preached that people should repent. 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.

I am sorry, I join you in prayer.

Hi Hazard! I seldom lock my doors, though I probably should start getting in the habit. I don't sit on the corner waiting for God to feed me, yet that does not change the fact that God will, indeed, look out for me without my needing to be prepared to harm another person. Some christians eat pork, some don't.

Exactly. True information was leaked or hacked? Blame Russia, and distract Americans from the facts by raising a false flag. Media plays along, and the corruption continues.
-
yes, very!

Then this is instruction to pray and take common medicine?
-
Yes I agree, it's not the oil that heals, but if we are told to do it, it would be obedience. I like the rest of your post, I'm going to think on it, thanks!
-
I understand your apprehension with all the false teaching that is around, no, I don't believe I'm a healer lol or know any healers but Jesus! You said a directive has been largely ignored so i'm wondering why it isn't done unless it makes someone think the oil is more important than prayer or God when it is used?
-
Thanks Ezra, obedience is why I asked this question, if we are directed to pray and anoint with oil, well, your first paragraph indicates that we are to do this, but your second paragraph, I'm not so sure. You believe the spiritual gift is no longer, but prayer and anointing should still be occurring?

Federal judge halts recount, sealing Trump's Michigan win

This whole Russia thing has to be a big smokescreen to make us look away from something. Who cares if Russia hacked and released information? We all know both governments do a whole lot more than just hacking emails. Does anybody believe the U.S. is innocent? If Hillary doesn't want her emails released, than don't write them! Does anybody really believe what they send on the internet is secret and nobody can find it? Really? -

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Are born again, or saved people all disciples? I see many translations use the word "disciple", though the KJV uses "teach". Blueletterbible.org has this to say: c. Make disciples of all the nations: The command is to make disciples, not merely converts or supporters of a cause. The idea behind the word disciples is of scholars, learners, or students. i. Make disciples reminds us that disciples are made. Disciples are not spontaneous created at conversion; they are the product of a process involving other believers. This last line is probably the closest to what made me start reading about this verse. Any thoughts?

Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. What does it mean to "deny himself"
