  3. MIND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verses 9 - 11 "Eye hath not seen, not ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them (these things) unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things (this is MIND in action), yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God." Here we have been presented a picture of a Divine person, with His mind alert, looking in every direction, with nothing hid to His view. He penetrates beyond every veil. This is a very practical truth for us. The Holy Spirit desires to aid our thought life in order that we might be prepared for the days ahead. In this connection many of you can remember of the many times you have been called into homes when someone in that home was laid low because of a severe illness or is close to death, some here have experienced this recently. Then, as we open the Word of God and joined hearts together in spiritual oneness at the Throne, we prayed to God to deal with mercy, to lift us up, to encourage us, to wipe away the tears we've shed, the tears of grief and sorrow, and give us a sense of His presence and peace. On many occasions of this nature, such a time of prayer has brought such thoughts as "If this had come a year ago, it would have knocked us over! We would not have been ready for it! But during the last few moths we have sensed a new desire in our family to read the Scriptures together and to speak of Christ with one another. We can see now that we have been made ready for this experience." Is this not more so true now brethern? Can you not feel a new desire to go forth with boldness and speak to others of Jesus Christ? Do you not feel a growing presence is with us here, a need to speak out is becoming stronger with each passing day? I think you do. But who is it that is doing this that is moving amongst us brethern? Who gave these desires anew for the Word, for Christ, for prayer, for a deeper love for one another? Say Hello to the workings of the Holy Spirit, for this is His work. He knows what the future holds for His people, and in His love is reaching out to strengthen us, and we, sensitive to His dealings, have yielded to His urgings, and have been made ready against these days of trials. How good it is to know that the Spirit of God with His wonderful mind comes to our assistance in practical ways in other areas of life also! This truth of which we speak is not unrealistic and unattainable. It is down to the level of our daily living. It is on this plane that God wants us to know the Holy Spirit, and to depend upon His matchless understanding for our good and the furtherance of His program through us. I'd like if I may, to dedicate this to the memory of Keith (toto lil punk) and to his family and friends, I lift you up before the throne of God and ask that He wipe away those tears in His loving mercy.
  4. Hey trib, Welcome to this thread, I think if you read from the beginning you'll see where dood stands on all these points. Please remember to keep this thread respectful and non-abusive, as it is about witnessing. Also as far as I understand, the "how to convert" thread was closed, and I would hope that those wishing to speak with dood in reference to that specific topic would not use this thread as a continuation of that topic. I would hate to see this thread suffer the same fate! Anyways, enough said on that, dood i've read your reply and will get back to you as soon as I've thought it over. God Bless you dood.
  5. aaaawwww thank you dood, that was a very nice thing to say

  7. Again folks, remember that this is the continuation of a message given by Neville Horn in 1961 concerning the Holy Spirit, which I found helpful when trying to understand the person of the Holy Spirit. Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated. WHO IS HE? The question should not be, what is IT? Many Christians when speaking of the Holy Spirit use the word "it." Suggesting a failure to understand that the Holy Spirit is a person. He is as much a person as the Lord Jesus is a person or as the Father is a person. If we speak of the Holy Spirit as "it'" are we not then describing Him as an influence, a divine force and that only. The Lord Jesus always used the personal pronouns, "he," "him," and "his" in speaking of the Holy Spirit. He knew Him to be a person, and He wants us to understand that truth also. We can speak of ourselves as being persons because we have three powers. First, we have the power to know with our own minds. Secondly, we have the power of will, we can choose. And thirdly, we have emotions, of which love is one. These are the powers of personality. And, these three powers constitute each one of us a person. I believe it is in this sense that we are made like God. Obviously, when Genesis records that God made us in His image, the likeness was not something physical but something in this realm of personality. There is an abundance of Scripture to show that the Holy Spirit also has these three attributes - divine attributes, of course, in His case.

  11. I just wanted to type out a message from a booklet by Neville Horn. Mr Horn delivered these studies during Back to the Bible conference held in Lincoln, Nebraska in May 1961. They have help me and I was hoping they might be an inspiration to others, I have been greatly blessed by this message and hope others will be too. Unfortunately, I can't type it all out in one go, otherwise my fingers might fall off...... PERSONALITY, PLACE AND PROGRAM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT The Lord Jesus unfolded to His disciples the vital secrets of the life they must share with Him before they could serve Him. This is apparent from the following Scriptures: "If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." (John 14 v 15 - 17). In John 16, verses 7 - 15, He said, "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient (absolutely necessary) for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement: Of sin, because they believe not in me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgement, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine, and shall shew it unto you." At another time, Jesus instructed His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they were indued with power from on high. He also said, "Ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." (Acts 1 v 8). In saying these things, our Lord made it clear to His disciples that they would miss the kind of life and successful service into which He wanted to lead them unless they honored the Holy Spirit. They would honor the Spirit only to the extent they were open and responsive to His dealing day by day. That is also the emphasis of the Lord Jesus as He speaks to us today from the throne of God and sees us in our spiritual bankruptcy. He finds us counting upon organizations, personalities, and programs, instead of realizing that the answer for successful service lies in the Person of the Spirit of God. I do not write from great spiritual heights, but I have learned that to Honor the Holy Spirit is the center of life with Christ! Do we need an understanding of the Word of God? Yes, well it is the Holy Spirit that illuminates the sacred pages and leads us to all truth. Do we need guidance? Yes, He directs the believer. It is the Spirit of God who glorifies Christ in us and reveals to us things to come. Let Him do His work within us. Let us learn the inward art of meditating upon the Word of God so that under the control of the Holy Spirit we will grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Then, with that as a background, we will be able to effectively witness for Christ in the areas in which the Spirit of God leads us. Dr Griffith Thomas, a godly man of another generation, wrote: "It is only as a dynamic that Christianity will recommend itself to the life of today. And according to the New Testament, this dynamic is only possible by the presence and grace of the Holy Spirit. There is only one way of demonstrating Christianity as a supernatural religion and that is by constant insistence on the presence and work of the Holy Spirit." Let this be true in our own thinking. God intends that His children should know the Holy Spirit, worship Him, love Him, obey Him, trust Him, and inwardly depend upon Him moment by moment. Three important questions now remain to be answered from the Bible concerning the Holy Spirit:- (1) Who is He? (2) Where is He? (3) What does He want?
