  1. I think God recognized one of the deepest yearnings known to humans: where did we come from? He satisfied that with Genesis. It is timeless, written for an ancient people, yet it still speaks to us today.
  2. What can I add to that? Sleep? Me?
  3. What I was saying if there are similarities it would seem natural since the code is needed for all life.
  4. We have an Odyssey.
  5. And I would say religion in science is unnecessary altogether. There is no field of science that is benefited by believing in the God of the Bible – or any god for that matter. I would echo Einstein's words: Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
  6. I think Galileo's faith was a little more nuanced than those in authority in his day, and even now as the battle wages on in faith and science.
  7. Fair is the sunshine, Fairer still the moonlight, And all the twinkling starry host; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels heaven can boast.
  8. Isn't that saying the same thing???
  9. If God made the stars appear at once, their light would have to have been created already in transit, otherwise nothing would have appeared in the sky other than the solar system for the first few years at least, right? That scene was hilarious!
  10. I mean, if the light were created en route, wouldn't we expect to see fewer events, such as Supernova 1987A? Just events over the past few thousand years from closer objects?
  11. I don't know. How would we be seeing stellar events that happened long ago? Wouldn't the light be more uniform?
  12. Sure!
  13. So take the evidence and run with it!
  14. We would need to update our hypotheses then, I should think!
  15. Which should not be a surprise. After all, we all live in the biosphere. Adam and Eve had the 98% as well.
  16. Yes. I was thinking that Christ is the Ultimate Reality. But we are saying the same thing. It is odd to say this, but I often have doubts about God and everything else, but never Jesus. He is like the lighthouse in the storms and darkness. I have at times felt like giving it all up. Then a friend asked me, you don't believe in Jesus anymore? I realized that is impossible.
  17. There is, after all, one Reality that really matters. All these other conversations are secondary or peripheral.
  18. Then we are in one accord there. Don't you love Honda?
  19. There is a list of no no's posted on AiG's website of points to avoid. I've heard em all. You should be healthily skeptical of some of the claims scientists make as well. Particularly with some of the new ideas that come along.
  20. I revised my previous post a little to explain my dubious perspective. I wanted to say that my suspicions are from lingering effect by creationist assertions in the past that weren't very sound.
  21. Good quote by Gould. About NBC and CBS then... You must forgive me if I'm a little jaded about creationism advocates. In my younger years I had quite a bit of exposure to creationist assertions that were not very sound. I notice to their credit that AIG recommends against using these ideas in discussion about origins.
  22. ============================================================================================== An equivalent statement would be....many people rely on NBC rather than CBS for their daily news. And??.........What's your point? It's also an Ad Hominem (Fallacy) complete with Poisoning The Well (Fallacy). The most disturbing aspect of this is.... I had already, ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, spoke to you about this very issue....but, the paradigm must be upheld I guess. Take a Primer Course in What?? : ..... 1. How to maintain "a priori" adherence's to fairytales in the face of common sense? 2. How to delete or cover up data that opposes your Pre-Arranged outcomes? 3. How to equivocate "Micro" and "Macro" evolution to to pathetically feign credibility with the former without explaining the latter? 4. How to assimilate AD-HOC Observations into the Paradigm without anyone noticing? Some others? I could go on for days....but there's other low-hanging fruit on the thread that needs to be dealt with. Nobody is poisoning the well. I made no slight against creationism. You need to lighten up. Better to study what the experts have to say about the subject. I don't watch NBC or CBS, but it is revealing that you chose that comparison. I personally choose a more evenhanded, professional presentation of events. The primer I mentioned would be an unemotional study of evolution by someone simply interested in the subject without an agenda. Is that too much to ask?
  23. How then can you be spiritual. Do you believe in the soul?
  24. Many people rely on creationist websites and publications to inform them of evolution. It would be really good for folks to take a primer course to better fill out their knowledge.
  25. No it's okay. I just was asking how it is to have Christ living in you. I don't think He really does in me.
