  1. I know a lot of saying that people accredit to God's Word or Biblical sayings have been tweeked a bit here and there and still said to be found in Scriptures. I think that is something taht we need to be careful of because even a small change here and there to a phrase can change the whole meaning of the sentence. For example, like firestormx said, it's the "love of money", not "money is the root of all evil". a few word changes here and there and people are attributing verses to a place they aren't originated from. The Bible is the best resource for these kind of things by far!
  2. There are a ton of Amish near the area I live in Pennsylvania. We've had them replace a roof on our house, we love their foods they make at Farmer's Market's and town stores, and when we play softball in their towns, kids come out of the corn fields in our outfield and steal the softballs we hit, then run back into the cornstalks. Overall, I do see an increase in their media-fame as of late. It's almost like each year a new culture is the reality winner and is protrayed on a show or in-depth in some way. Rednecks, Jersey-Italians, Hillbillies, British, etc. That's how shows like Duck Dynasty, Jersey Shore, Honey Boo-boo, and such get popular. I'm not grouping Duck Dynasty in with those other 2 shows in terms of quality! I actually think DD has some value to it very much unlike JS and Honey-Boo Boo.
  3. I've only ever fasted once in my life and it was as a middle-schooler our Youth Group did a 30-hour famine. It of course was new to me at the time but we were able to focus our time that weekend on God. Songs, missionaries, prayer requests, volunteer work to help the less fortunate. It was a great way to spend time devoting our resources to God and putting aside the thought of food fulfilling our bodies as we let Christ be the Bread of Life for us and fill us up with our hunger for Him.
  4. Bless your sense of humor Hall7 I think one thing that I find I want to better prepare myself for in life is having Scriptures etched in my mind and heart. I know when even seeking non-believers approach me and ask me questions about Christ and the Bible and anything related, I do feel a sense of hesitation to make sure I don't mess up my words with what God wants to speak through me to help reach this person. Even if I know what I believe and am saying is right, the last thing I want to do is confuse my words and hinder the work of the Lord. Ultimately I know he's in control and His will be done. I just pray by digging deeper into the Bible when I can strengthens my knowledge of Christ and can lead me to be a stonger vessel for witnessing.
  5. Reminds me of how Jesus used the Sword of the Spirit in the word to basically shut up and defeat Satan in the desert during his temptations during the 40 days of fasting. God conquers all.
  6. I'm hesitant about going to see it. Yeah I loved Passion of the Christ when it came out, but these kind of movies can be very tricky with the message and accuracy they are protraying to the whole world audience.
  7. I am guessing Adam and Eve had "Glorified Bodies" which is kinda like what we will have when we go to Heaven. We won't be very old, or very young, but almost like in an ideal state. Adam and Even were created before the 1st sin so their bodies, minds, and souls were still perfect up to the point of touching and eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. I of course can not say for sure, but that's my belief and best "guess".
  8. All sorts of reasons for me. Prayer request is of course a big one. When I'm in a jam, small or big, I love taking it to him first. He may not be the first to answer my problems, but it sure is easier knowing that I can freely express my concerns, worries, desires, etc to him and that he's always looking out for me. Simple chit-chat. I love just finding a few moments of quiet during the day and playing a quick "catch-up" conversation-wise with God. I know he already has my life planned out and blue-printed, but just to be able to talk with him one-on-one in a loving friendship kind of way. It takes stress off my mind and gets me back into the Christian-living mentality.
  9. My kids are going to get jigsaw puzzles, board games, and sports equipment. No video games, no explosives (haha), and no Worm Farms for them.
  10. I was a huge fan of The Worm as an NBA player, but his personality...not at all. Great player in his prime, heck his whole career on the defensive end and grabbing boards and intimidating players. His lifestlye though, pretty disappointing. One of those characters you're not sure will ever change for the better. The stunts with marrying himself, alcohol abuse (drugs too?), obscene language/gestures, even incidnets on the court like his camera man kicking moment. One of those players who tried to be different and stand out and it seems like it bit him in the butt. He's famous alright, in the Hall of Fame of course which is probably deserved from a basketball viewpoint, but his shenanigans make me shake my head.
  11. Thanks Kwik!! I've noticed when I was living in Georgia that there were so many slow drivers. Most of them had pretty beat up cars and were trying to deck them out, pimp them, and soup them up. I think they literally spent $300 on the car, and then like $7000 on the accessories and features. They'd go riding around slow as heck to draw attention to their car, which would then result in traffic backed up a light or so. I've seen some very interesting cars down there, some very interesting drivers, and definitely some interesting accidents. Most of the accidents I think occurred due to motorcyclists speeding by cars in non-passing lanes or on the brim.
  12. I've seen some pretty huge one's while I was in Boot Camp in San Antonio in the chow hall. Those suckers were mutant one's, not afraid of light at all! They were captivated by the moistness under the sinks where the pipes leaked. You could kick them across the room and they would come right back to your foot looking for a place to snuggle. I hate them, but not as bad as I hate centipedes... :/
  13. I agree very much with what The Patriot said. Bieber just gets too much publicity and needs to be ignored. Of course he's got his millions upon millions of fans in the world, but even those who can't stand him seem to give him attention which feeds fuel to the fire. I'm not sure what goes through these celebrities' minds sometimes, nor do I want to. haha I have a fear he'll be a hot comodity for the next 10 years at least, as sad as that is to say.
  14. The Lochness Monster is one thing I'm hesitant to believe or not. I want to, and I'd love to be there and see it in real life, in person, but I know the odds of it are worse than winning the Powerball lottery I bet. Nessie's getting old, so she might be having trouble getting up to the surface more often, or, she may have croaked... :/
  15. I believe God does have a sense of humor. I mean I wouldn't quite go as far as him pulling practical jokes, but when he see's something we do that's a head-smack moment that's kinda innocent, but minor, I think he can sit back and chuckle to himself at times. I know many times I've stated "God must have a sens of humor since He..." fill in the blank. I'm not going to try and tell Him knock knock jokes when we meet or when I pray, but I can imagine his love for us would also include his willingness to laugh at sometimes the craziness of our lives.
  16. I've never been compelled to force Jesus on a loved one (family or friend) before, but that doesn't stop me from mentioning how he works in my life on a frequent basis. Even the mention of Christ or God in a sentence can spark a person's interest, thoughts, or curiosity to get the wheels of the mind spinning about how they need Christ in their life and how he's there even when we don't know/see Him. Just because he doesn't say anything, doesn't mean he's not thinking. Let him know that your new faith in Christ is important to you. It's the reason we're on this Earth and the ultimate journey for our Salvation. A true friend will want to listen to you, talk to you, hear what's on your mind and what's important in your life. I believe God' puts people in our paths so that we don't give up on them and can witness to them, no matter how tough it may seem.
  17. As Desi stated, communication is a very key role in any relationship, and should def be utilized here if you see something you have a problem with. While you stated he is not a Christian, take that into consideration and remember that your views, perspectives, and up-bringing is of course going to be different. I believe that if you bring up a problem that you have with your significant other, and explain that your worried because you love them and don't want to see them get hurt, be stupid, etc, they should get the hint that you care enough him to intercede. I wish you all the best with this situation as drinking does affect many people; Christians and non-Christians. Stay strong and ultimately see if you can win another soul for Christ in the process.
  18. HAHA this is kind of a funny subject. I've lived in both the Southern and Northern United States for a couple years and I believe the Southern drivers are "worse". I'm not saying all! Just with my experience, they seem to have a lot more lesser valued cars driving around which may also impact the way they feel about the wrecklessness of their driving. Also, when the weather turns bad, these southern drivers are not use to snow and ice and therefore their experiecen is none so more accidents and mishaps take place. There are bad drivers and great drivers everywhere, but to me, I've seen Georgia as a less bit skilled behind teh steering wheel in my opinion. I still love the state though.
  19. Hopefully this does not affect the boy negatively the rest of his life. I think it'd be very bizarre to see the boy labeled as a sexual predator at the age of 6. Now I'm not saying that's what he will be labeled, but who knows nowadays. I'd rather have my son kiss a girl on the cheek than be swearing, fighting, or worse.
  20. I'm very skeptical of health care systems. I guess moreso I have an unfavorable opinion on health insurances. While we can pay rediculously high premiums and monthly payments for our coverages, we then in turn ahve to pay pretty high costs when a time for emergency comes around too. I can pay $3900 a year for a family coverage, be healthjy the whole year. Never use a cent of the coverage. Still though there's such things as deductables and pretty high costs and co-pays if for some reason a broken ankle is suffered and an x-ray is needed? Surgery of course is outrageously expensive as well even with coverage. However it's that double-edged sword. If we don't have health care, we're going to pay 10 times as much or more. The whole health system and the doctors that work in the field do make A LOT of money. No matter if they help the patient or not, their pockets are full. It's a crazy system, but one that won't be going away or changing anytime soon I bet.
  21. I have once again mixed emotions on this subject. While there are so many people who are struggling to save money, provide for their families, there is quite a number of individuals/families that take advantage of the system. I remember working at a place called Sheetz when I was in college which is like a major gas station/store/grocery food kitchen store. Many of the families in the city would come in an pay for cold food products with their Food Stamnps or EBT cards as they are now called. Then right after the purchase they would but a ton of tobacco products with their cash. And to top it off, a lot of these people have very, very nice smart phones. I think money spent on wants and desires can be cut back if these people are purcahsing products like that. I will look forward to the day, maybe it won't happen until we're in Heaven, but when we're fed from the Lord himself. If he would provide manna like he did in Moses' time, and fresh fruits and vegatables foir picking and consumption. It beats paying $50 at Red Lobster. Anyway, I do feel that a cut will definitely affect negatively the poor families in this country who are trying hard to provide for families.
  22. Lol this takes me back to my Kindergarden year when I was kissed by 4 girls throughout the year and had no problem with it at all. And THEY were the one's who initiaed it. haha But low and behold, those Kindergarden days were my prime sad to say. It's been down-hill since then. lol I feel like it is a minor thing to turn into a suspension, especially for a 6-year old and the issue was raised that the girl liked him back as well. It's not like they snuck off from class and had a full-blown make-out session, or beyond. I believe the teacher who saw this act was probably just stepping in to save their own rear-end just in case the little girl went home and "told mommy or daddy" and the parents became up-in-arms about the situation. My parents would have been proud of me, haha. I do believe it was an over-reactment, but I think that is up to the parents of the child maybe in this case. Tough call. I'm sure we'd all react differently if it was our son or daughter.
  23. I have thought about this a lot lately as the concept of the lottery has gotten to be so popular lately. I definitely think it's garners so much more interest since they raised the jackpot prize numbers in the past years. I would like to see how long I could keep it a secret. I want to keep living a simple life that I am without the effects of money on how people see me, treat me, or other how interactions will be. I would definitely give a great portion to the cause of bringing others to Christ. Weather that be tithing at church, supporting missionairies, building churches, etc... I would want to space it out though. Not just lump sum it all to one place. I also of course would pay off any debts and help my immediate family.
  24. I'm actually on the cusp of never having to pay rent again hopefully. Currently I pay $525 for my rent on a 1st floor apartment in a small suburb town which does just fine for my fiance. She lives there while I still live with my family before we get married this Summer. I just bought a house that will almost double my housing payments, but it'll be an investment in something I "own", instead of something I'm paying someone else and will never get back. I am glad I am doing this as soon as possible. No matter if home prices go up or down, I've got something to call my own. In most cases it's cheaper to buy your own home than rent anyway.
  25. I honestly think we will all be surprised when the time comes when we go to Heaven and see Adam and Eve for the first time. They may be the blackest black anyone's ever seen. They may be more pale than a video game nerd stuck in his parents basement. They may even be crisply tan like a South Beach vacationer. I honestly have no idea. Then the question comes back around to, "What race were Noah and his family?" Since the whole population was started over, its hard to picture how maybe Adam and Noah were similar or different even after all those years in between. My best guess would be, Middle-Eastern looking. Short hair from scratch, but it grew out while the concept of haircuts probably wasn't that big of a concern to them.
