  1. Thank you for for this. I've heard that the present Pope comes from the Jesuits, which I understand is the quote/unquote progressive side of the Catholic religion. I'm not going to refer to them as a church, since that word has connotations that I don't feel comfortable in extending towards them.
  2. Forgive me if I've used the wrong terminology here. I am unsure of that. I sometimes think that those Christians who come to Christ out of the world have a harder time acclimatizing and catigorizing what it is to be a Christian than those who were born and raised into Christianity. I think there is, at times an underlying need to prove their faith, even to fellow Christians than those whose foundation in the faith was set by the parents of those who grew up in the faith. As a result Born again Christian are more anxious and stressed out when dealing with issues of the faith. They may just be harder on some within the community for doing things outside the faith that they, themselves have done and project themselves on the perpetrators out of remorse for their history. I don't know about some others, but I can get this way at times. It's like I have to prove I'm worthy and I don't know if doing so is a tell tale sign of some serious issue I have with myself or with the Holy Spirit. Have other people gone through this or am I the fritzbrain in the community?
  3. Vain arguments. We are talking about something that the highest authority anywhere said to do in order for us to reach him. It seems vanity is on the sides of those who which to update Christianity. Make it more stylish or tweek something, in order to make it work for them. This is not meant for anyone here, but this is not a popularity contest between those who hope for change and those who hope in the word of God. We or at least I do, argue for purity in the Word of our Lord and If oeople would stop and think about it, the idea of leading us not into temptation may have been a reference to him not leading us into the temptation to read into what he said and to pray to him for guidance instead of flipping a coin and following whatever decision that that creates. in determining for ourselves what he meant by, whatever comes of that flip.
  4. The difference between Catholicism and Christianity is the difference between religion and walking with a living, breathing God. If you see, through the years how much turmoil and destruction, even down to today with pedophile preachers you can see what God thinks of Catholicism.
  5. God said to do it that way. God is infalable. There is no wiggle room there. Especially when I'm sure the Holy Spirit guided those who translated the Bible.
  6. So the Pope thinks they can improve on something that God personally gave us to reach out to him. I'm sorry, well no I'm not. I want to tell this guy off so badly I can't see straight. https://aleteia.org/blogs/deacon-greg-kandra/lead-us-not-into-translations-pope-thinks-lords-prayer-could-be-improved/
  7. I think this thread has far outlasted it's usefulness Don't yo?
  8. One of the things I'd like to do before kicking the bucket is to go see the Arizona Monument.
  9. I think it would be helpful to separate folklore from lies. I lie is an intentional falsehood told, more likely to benefit the teller instead of the precipitant. Folklore, like Santa Claus has roots in reality, as there was at one time a person called St. Nick. The rest of the story is in fact to embellish the char actor and bring hopeful anticipation to those who the story is told to.
  10. I just Googled that phrase and got a link to this Catholic Church. Here is the link https://aleteia.org/blogs/deacon-greg-kandra/jesus-had-two-dads-whats-behind-that-controversial-church-sign/ The people behind that sign said it meant a father and a step father. So, not only are they charletons, but they are cowards and liars to boot. Really quality people running that place.
  11. I wasn't referencing to anyone here. The train of thought that got us to the post you quoted was about Christians being open and honest about the history of Christmas, because the detractors of Christianity would and have used lapses in what they consider common knowledge to undermine our credibility.
  12. The detractors of Christianity will do or say anything and everything to reduce the chances that we will be taken seriously. It is their purpose in life.
  13. This is not going down a rabbit hole. This is going off topic and that was done previous to my response. I think the thread went South as soon as people began repeating themselves, since it revealed nothing new.
  14. What matters to me is that we are open and honest about everything, so that we won't get shown up by those who lay traps for us. We are tasked to spread the word of God and speak about our savior, Jesus Christ, but If a person asks about the history of Christmas to test the waters of our honesty and we give them information that they know is not correct, then to how much else does anyone think they will listen to us, beyond that? I don't think much, if any at all.
  15. I looked up what wiki means and this is the explanation I got. But where does the wiki in WikiLeaks & Wikipedia come from? Wiki was introduced into the lexicon by a computer programmer named Ward Cunningham in 1995 when he created collaborative software that he called WikiWikiWeb. Wiki is Hawaiian word which means “fast or quick.” I think that the suffix pedia is just used like Encyclopedia
  16. If by Wiki you mean you pulled that off of Wikipedia, that is far from doing any form of research. Anyone can go to Wikipedia and edit as they wish, whatever they wish. If you've done any more research than that please submit it and we will examine that together. I am not here to push any agenda, but to supply the facts as I've found them and those I have submitted in this thread. The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine (he was the first Christian Roman Emperor). A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on the 25th December. Please be diligent in your search for factual history The idea of hand me downs was that Catholics took a already established pagan festival and renamed it so they could imprint the idea of Christ into the public conscience. I have no clue why they didn't do it the old fashioned way of preaching the Gospel and letting the Holy Spirit do, but I guess they got impatient. This fact is not in question http://www.history.com/topics/christmas/history-of-christmas The origin of the Christmas tree From your link there it The last part of that was not from your link, but I mistakenly posted my response within the quotes I placed there. From where I bolded Legend has it to the bottom is my response alone.
  17. What we are talking about is those ties. What originates as pagan stays pagan if not purified by God, the same is true for sin, which is why God had to come to Earth as Jesus and die to cleanse us. It was why God demanded burnt offerings in the OT. HE CLEANSES. We can not simply remove the taint of paganism and we can't simply assume that God will automatically do so because we have warm feelings about something. He is not at our beck and call. Has anybody even prayed to him about this or ask for his guidance? AT ALL! As far as I understand Catholicism they simply assume that God will go along with them and their practices. They were the ones to incorporate both Christmas and the Christmas tree and If they just assumed that God would go along with them how can we as Christians do the same thing, when we know for a fact that pray works.
  18. It has already been proven that there is no reference to any Christmas tree in the Bible, so why even go there with a conversation about a Christmas tree.? They are biased towards that which is tradition when it comes to issues that are not of Biblical origin and as such are directive instead of informative on their answers. I would suggest you not place the term truth where the word opinion obviously goes when you only quote one source for information that can't be corroborated in the Bible. That is the only source of truth that I know of, because it is the word of God. Being Born again has nothing to do with this and the truth can only be found, outside of the Bible by diligently searching all avenues of information and coming up with what is most credible outside our own prejudices.
  19. I would not quote anything from Got questions.org. They have been found wanting on several occasions. Here is a more reputable source of information on the history of the Christmas tree. http://www.history.com/topics/christmas/history-of-christmas-trees
  20. I have absolutly no clue how I ever uploaded anything from anybody. I tried to get rid of that through the editing screen and couldn't. I went to the attachment control area of my profile page and couldn't get rid of it. I even quoted my own post and asked how I could get rid of that attachment, but I've gotten nothing back. If you could tell me how to delete it, I would be overjoyed.
