  1. Acts 19:1 And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. 19:2 And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 19:3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” 19:4 And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” 19:5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. [water] 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. water baptism and Holy Spirit baptism the two are complementary and go together > to become referred to later in the epistles as one baptism. John 3:5 Jesus answered, Amen, Amen, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
  2. Acts 16:29 And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. 30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. [explained the gospel, witnessed to him and his household] 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. 34 Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God. Water baptism - this is the way - to borrow a phrase.
  3. So Arrabon, is that you in your avatar pix? Looking scruffy at 78. Now if you were a cat you would be so well groomed and oh so cool.
  4. How wrong can a man be? 1Peter 3:20 that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in Noah’s days, while the ark was a preparing, into which few, that is, eight souls, were brought safely through water: 3:21 which also in the antitype doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through Jesus Christ’s resurrection; (LITV) Which antitype now also saves us, baptism (not a putting away of filth of flesh, but answer of a good conscience toward God through resurrection of Jesus Christ; Now who should I believe; Peter the apostle or a man from Virginia? Even Jesus underwent water baptism to show us the way.
  5. Wrong wrong wrong - if we have faith and believe then we do it God's way - and the scriptures clearly inform us how real Christians in scripture were obedient to the commandments of God. As for your verse 37 that is considered a deliberate interpolation by a scribe - it is not God inspired text - same with the KJV version of 1John 5:7 the correct wording from the original Greek is: Acts 8:35 And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this scripture, preached the gospel to him, Jesus. 8:36 And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch saith, Lo, water; what hindereth me to be baptized? 8:38 And he commanded to stop the chariot; and both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. Philip preached the gospel of salvation to the eunuch and what did he do? He believed, he repented, he got water baptised - to receive salvation in Christ Jesus. The gospel of salvation is a mutual obligation covenant.
  6. Yes Peterlag obviously got a better deal than most. Should of read the fine print.
  7. You should pay much less attention to the teachings of men and learn from scripture itself through the Holy Spirit: 1John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1:6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. so does Andrew Farley know something that John the Apostle does not?
  8. 1Peter 4:17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 4:18 And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” 4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good. why must we suffer if we have no sin nature to overcome?
  9. this fanaticism about "works" is unscriptural and denies the true intent of what is commanded of us. obedience to to commandments of God is not works - Paul is referring to our own efforts at good works to appease God, about any claims of our own goodness. Next people will claim that believing is works, or faith is works. Ephesians 2:8 - note the Weymouth version (ESV) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, (NENT) for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; (Weymouth) For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves. It is God's gift, and is not on the ground of merit-- (YLT) for by grace ye are having been saved, through faith, and this not of you—of God the gift, Ephesians 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Yes it is the grace, the mercy, of God that offers us salvation in believing and acting upon the gospel of salvation - BUT there is clearly a process put in place by God for disciples to do in a correct manner what is satisfactory to God. A template; just as Moses and Noah were both given specific instructions that they were commanded to follow for salvation in their times: What must we do? Acts 2:38 (Weymouth) "Repent," replied Peter, "and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, with a view to the remission of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (YLT) and Peter said unto them, 'Reform, and be baptized each of you on the name of Jesus Christ, to remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, stop wrestling with the scriptures and just do it. Even Jesus underwent water baptism to show his disciples on how to fullfil all righteousness and then afterwards he was baptised in the Holy Spirit. Just as we as disciples (believers?) must do also. Are we better than our Lord?
  10. Joel 2: is quoted by Peter at the day of Pentecost - but verse 23 itself is tricky in the original Hebrew and open to many a translation ... Joel 2:23 (DRB) And you, O children of Sion, rejoice, and be joyful in the Lord your God: because he hath given you a teacher of justice, and he will make the early and the latter rain to come down to you as in the beginning. (ESV) “Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given the early rain for your vindication; he has poured down for you abundant rain, the early and the latter rain, as before. (KJV) Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month. (KJV+) Be gladH1523 then, ye childrenH1121 of Zion,H6726 and rejoiceH8055 in the LORDH3068 your God:H430 forH3588 he hath givenH5414 you(H853) the former rainH4175 moderately,H6666 and he will cause to come downH3381 for you the rain,H1653 the former rain,H4175 and the latter rainH4456 in the firstH7223 (LITV) Then be glad, sons of Zion, and rejoice in Jehovah your God. For He has given to you the early rain according to righteousness, and He will cause the rain to come down for you, the early rain and the latter rain in the first month. (WEB) “Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in Yahweh, your God; for he gives you the former rain in just measure, and he causes the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before. (YLT) And ye sons of Zion, joy and rejoice, In Jehovah your God, For He hath given to you the Teacher for righteousness, And causeth to come down to you a shower, Sprinkling and gathered—in the beginning. It is not a matter of a scripture or two the allegory of former and latter rain is sprinkled through the Bible - for God does like to do most things in twos - such as the first Adam and the second Adam.
  11. Self denial can be delusional.
  12. It is only because we FEAR God and the Moderator!
  13. Hey I got short changed. For there are definitely remnants of the old self in me.
  14. NO - my understanding of this is that the former rain is the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit evidenced by people speaking in tongues at Pentecost and the latter rain is the same outpouring of the Holy Spirit with people again speaking in tongues at the beginning of the twentieth century and continuing through today.
  15. 1Peter 3:20 because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, accepting the need for water baptism is repentance being put into action - the beginning of doing things God's way and not our own opinions about what we need to do. Jesus and the apostles teach and command water baptism - Peter does specifically state that it does save you - so just do it? Better to err on the side of caution than to be wrong with God. Also in the waters of baptism is where the new person confesses their faith and calls on the name of the Lord. When I was asked on a Wednesday night was I going to be baptised? God spoke to me very audibly scriptures - slightly paraphrased: So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father and the angels who are in heaven. (Matthew 10:32-33) I knew in my heart immediately that Jesus had been waiting decades for me to arrive at this point in time and that I needed to make a commitment now. So I got baptised by full immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. I acknowledged Jesus as my Lord and God, my Saviour and Redeemer before other people in the waters of baptism. Put your own personal opinions aside and as good disciples be doers of the word. As Cornelius said to Peter "Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord." Acts 10:47 “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.
  16. Wow I wish that I did not have any residue of a sin nature - everything would be so much easier.
  17. Hebrews 6:7 For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. 6:8 But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned. Malachi 4:1 “For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. 4:2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. 4:3 And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the LORD of hosts. Nahum 1:5 The mountains quake before him; the hills melt; the earth heaves before him, the world and all who dwell in it. 1:6 Who can stand before his indignation? Who can endure the heat of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken into pieces by him. 1:7 The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him. Are we ready? Will we find strength when everybody else is fainting in fear?
  18. But Galatians 5 is not about walking in the flesh but rather that the carnal self is alive and well and contends with the new person we are in Christ Jesus. It is always a battle to bring self will under submission and to yield our bodies and lives fully to the will of God; to deny ourselves. choices choices every day -
  19. As do we all. I am not yet perfect as Peterlag is ... obviously a true saint on Earth.
  20. 1Cor 9:25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 9:26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 9:27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. (DRB) But I chastise my body and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps, when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway. (KJV) But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (NENT) but I bruise my *body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be disapproved. (YLT) but I chastise my body, and bring it into servitude, lest by any means, having preached to others—I myself may become disapproved.
  21. What a surprise! A little bit of ancient Egypt (that God calls us out of) right in front of the temple of God where a man who has usurped the role of Jesus as head of his church contrary to scripture does sit. Worldly religion that does corrupt all the kings of the Earth.
  22. Galatians 5:17 (DRB) For the flesh lusteth against the spirit: and the spirit against the flesh: For these are contrary one to another: so that you do not the things that you would. (ESV) For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. (KJV) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. (Weymouth) For the cravings of the lower nature are opposed to those of the Spirit, and the cravings of the Spirit are opposed to those of the lower nature; because these are antagonistic to each other, so that you cannot do everything to which you are inclined. (YLT) for the flesh doth desire contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit contrary to the flesh, and these are opposed one to another, that the things that ye may will—these ye may not do;
  23. Rev 17:9 This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; Rev 17:18 And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth. Rev 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth. ROME is the city that sits on seven hills (each individually named).
  24. In the meantime or back at the station > anybody heard from John D lately (the guy who posted this thread).
  25. I believe you to be wrong about this - there is a first resurrection of the saints, the body of Christ, when Jesus returns in power and glory with his angels. And there is a second resurrection for all other peoples, including many who deem themselves to be Christians. Rev 20:5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. 1Cor 15:51 Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 1Thess 4:14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
