There is no "OFF TOPIC" for this thread. My first "job" was at 14 - a "ball-shagger" at Baylor basketball games - my friend and I sat under one basket - 2 other guys sat under the other basket. We ran after errant basketballs and threw them back to the referee. It is an unusual year - the Baylor mens basketball team (#2 in the nation) outranking the women - who are #8 right now. The Dallas Cowboys played in mid-70's in NFC championship game - lost to Vikings. I attended. Fran Tarkenton was a combination of Mahomes and Brady on that day - completely unstoppable. The Baylor guys beat Texas recently. But beware - there are a HANDFUL of excellent teams in the Big 12 Conference in mens basketball. I mean like 5 out of the top 25 are Big 12 teams. The women do not have that level of competition. The Baylor women's coach and a couple of post players have already had covid. Baylor mens coach had covid early. Before Abraham was, Buddy AM.

A 7th Day Adventist Church and a Presbyterian church in town shared a building for a long while - til the Presbyterians got a building of their own. I enjoyed the stories of Waggles and Paul James. I am in Waco, Texas - more Baptists than you can shake a stick at, Baylor University is the biggest Baptist college in the world. At one time I was one Methodist in a Greek class of NINETY Baptists. I once referred to myself as an Ecumenical Loose Canon - Canon, not Cannon. In Dallas, for a while we went to a Charismatic Episcopal church. In San Antonio, I went to wednesday night Charismatic Catholic service...

It is fine to me if Paul James calls himself a Presbyterian and not a charismatic - I hope it is fine with him if I call myself a Methodist AND a Charismatic - its all just a LABELS Game anyway - I was Methodist before I was a Charismatic (by 20 years) - I was also plain ole Methodist before I was a United Methodist In fact I attended a conference in Dallas as a 9th-grader when the United Methodist church formed - Methodist Episcopal Church South and other Methodist bodies joined - it may be in the future it will Un-unite over gay issues, I don't know... I align myself with Wesleyan/Arminian theology rather than a CORPORATION known as United Methodist Church - and as to what charismatic MOVEMENT I align myself with, I don't. There are Oneness Pentecostals who speak in Tongues but deny the Trinity - perhaps there are FAKE CHARISMATICS like there is COUNTERFEIT MONEY - other than cash register jobs where I marked all bills 20 bucks and up to test for counterfeiting - I really never got into looking for counterfeiting, it never was a personal issue. Neither was it a personal issue to me to see "counterfeit Tongues" - I am fortunate never to have seen any, whether it goes on or not - I don't know.

Paul James said: You never know...he might try pushing his Bible cover into Jesus' face at the judgment! GUFFAW!!!! Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God https://www.blueletterbible.org/assets/images/copyChkboxOff.gif Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment The author of Hebrews is talking about leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ and going on to a kind of PERFECTION - this is different from THE PERFECT which will denote the PASSING AWAY of TONGUES, PROPHECY AND WORD OF KNOWLEDGE. That Teleios has not occurred yet, people. It was NOT the completion of the New Testament canon. Do you see how silly it would be that an ancient Christian is giving a message in Tongues at just the moment the last NT book is finished - he can't finish his message in Tongues because Tongues CEASE before he finishes. Also, we need to realize how long it took for the completed NT to be RECOGNIZED as such - Revelation was not accepted in some areas for centuries past when it was written.

Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, https://www.blueletterbible.org/assets/images/copyChkboxOff.gif Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment The author of Hebrews begins this passage by saying he is going to "leave" the principles of the doctrine of Christ and go on to PERFECTION -obviously not THE PERFECT in the sense of that which will come when Tongues, Prophecy and Word of Knowledge CEASE. They have NOT ceased to this day. Greek TELEOS means complete, perfect or mature. Even the most radical of cessationists are aware that Tongues goes on today in Assembly of God and Pentecostal churches - though they might claim that the Tongues are done falsely, faked, or whatever. Come on, man - Tongues go on today. That people may FAKE or COUNTERFEIT sometimes does not negate the fact that the GENUINE goes on, any more than counterfeit money negates the genuineness of real currency.

Certainly true, Paul James. In college I was a regular at a Coffeehouse where the Director was a Cessationist. A couple of others and I were Charismatics - I use the term usually referring to those who stayed within their own denomination after recieving the gift of Tongues rather than joing a Pentecostal denomination, or Assembly of God. Anyway, myself and two other charismatics had given our word to the Director that in witnessing to those in the coffeehouse that we would NOT get into the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. But the director wanted more than our word NOT to teach the Baptism - he wanted us to swallow the deal that THE PERFECT was the finished New Testament. The Director had just obtained a LEATHER BIBLE COVER and was showing it to everyone - a grand thing - 3 little belt loop thingies kept it fastened - everyone ooohed and ahhed over the special Bible cover... We were in a Staff Meeting prior to the coffeehouse being open to those from the outside - the Director seemed determined to get across to ME that THE PERFECT was the Bible. "And what came when Tongues PASSED AWAY?" ( he was about to RAM IT HOME ) "THIS!!" He shouted - shoving his bible in my face... Rick sitting next to me quickly quipped "What? Your Leather Bible Cover?" and my shoulders shook with suppressed laughter as the staff meeting was quickly dismissed without prayer. Rick, myself and one other charismatic somehow made it upstairs to a study room and just FELL ABOUT THE PLACE, dying laughing. We tried to straighten up - in a few minutes the people would come in to the coffeehouse - we were laughing so hard that tears rolled down our cheeks and splashed onto our shirts. Just when we were almost normal, someone made a gesture like the Director shoving his bible in my face, and saying THE PERFECT! I never laughed so hard in my life.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Maybe this gets The Apostles Creed off the hook - Jesus is called the everlasting Father - and Apostles Creed goes back to Old Roman Symbol about 100 AD. Also, Trinitarian symbols have been found in the CATACOMBS way before Nicene Creed. -

...and when ye see THE ABIDENATION OF DESOLATION...
Buddy D. Mouse replied to Buddy D. Mouse's topic in Eschatology
And, yea, when ye shall see the Abidenation of Desolation standing where it ought not; flee to Pella and other places, and there thou shalt be hidden for times, time and half a time.
