Easy believism is all around us in today's Church. Faith without repentance, conversion without discipleship, having Jesus as Saviour but not as Lord.

Christ, the Son is not the Holy Spirit. There are 3 persons in the Godhead, Father, Son & Spirit, distinct but of one substance.

It seems to me that you are wriggling out of the plain meaning of the text. Jesus' call to follow Him was 'if any man' not just some.

Why do you Calvinists always feel the need to push your Calvinism on others?

Discipleship is not optional. Jesus said, "If ANY man would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow Me". There are not two classes of Christians, disciples and non-disciples. The new birth changes the rebel into a disciple. As Paul wrote it is a new creation. Regeneration changes the inward disposition of a person from disobedience to obedience. Anything else is a counterfeit conversion.

A Christian is a disciple. Discipleship is the expression of saving faith. Discipleship is not optional for the Christian.

Alternately, people drop out of church because they have not crucified their carnal nature and get upset if they can't get their own way.

The "Free Grace" Gospel is heresy! It is having a Saviour without a Lord. Faith without repentance. A salvation with no Cross. In short, it is Cheap grace!

Today's gospel preaching is mostly cheap grace & easy believeism. By cheap grace I mean, belief without cost, no discipleship, no real commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. By easy believeism I mean, just mental assent to the facts of Christ's death & resurrection. A faith without repentance, without obedience. Should you think this is a Calvinist issue, it is not. I am an Arminian and I agree with the likes of John Macarthur on this issue as do most Evangelical Arminians. The Church is at an all time low because the Gospel preached is 'another Gospel' not that of the New Testament. It is time for a new reformation, getting back to the Bible, for faithful preaching of the true Gospel.

I wonder how many people her have been blessed by the books and recorded sermons by A W Tozer? I particularly enjoyed The Pursuit of God and God's Pursuit Of Man. I appreciate his insight into the problem of the modern Christian and the Church. His answers are not easy but ring true. What about you? What has blessed you from his ministry?

I must humbly disagree with your major premise. Scripture is replete with exhortations to put sin to death, deny one self, to reckon one self dead to sin, cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and to put off various sins etc. While we cannot do this without God's enabling, He will not do it without our working. The devil will confuse us on this issue , either self effort or being passive and waiting for God to do it. We are called to be co-workers with God in dealing with the sin issue. peace Jeffrey
