  1. Raven, would that be Deut 14:26? There are no commands in Scripture not to drink. I've read the entire Bible many times, and would have seen it if it was there. There are many, many commands not to get drunk. So there's a distinction there. To the OP, don't assume. Talk things over with both sets of parents, and make the wisest decision you can accordingly.
  2. Yeah, if I'm parsing that right, the word Deicide would not so much be 'death of God' as 'murder of God.'
  3. Hi, LadyRaven. I told my story about how I came to start covering back in post #6. At the time that I started covering, I had already been widowed for a year. So I don't see that wearing a cover when you don't have a husband would be lying.
  4. I'm a widow with kids also, so if you've like to email me, feel free to. One bit of advice that I got that I think is very good, is try not to make any major changes in the first year. Give yourself time to get used to some new version of normal, you know? I'm in a yahoo group for Christian widows. If you would like more info on that, please email me. I think my address is in my profile? Btw, I remember chatting with your husband in the Worthy chatroom. He seemed very nice, and I liked his sense of humor. (Hmm - didn't see my email address when I checked my profile. It's sheyajoie ~at~ yahoo ~dot~ com.)
  5. Wasn't 'Hinds Feet on High Places' by Hannah Hurnard?
  6. Fiosh quoted from John 10. Please note the parts below that I have underlined: You don't really think Jesus meant He was made of wood and had hinges, do you? As verse 6 makes clear, Jesus was using figures of speech.

    ECOZIN

I googled for the word Ecozin - it's a pesticide. I don't know how or if that fits at all.
  8. I got this in email like 6 yrs ago, maybe as many as 8, it was a long time ago, back when I used little hard disks which were not at that time called floppies... 666.0000: Number of the High Precision Beast 0.666: Number of the Millibeast 6, uh...what? : Number of the Blonde Beast 1-666: Area code of the Beast 00666: Zip code of the Beast $665.95: Retail price of the Beast $699.25: Price of the Beast plus 5% state sales tax $769.95: Price of the Beast with all accessories and replacement soul $656.66: Wal-Mart price of the Beast $646.66: Next week's Wal-Mart price of the Beast Phillips 666: Gasoline of the Beast Route 666: Way of the Beast 666 F: Oven temperature for roast Beast 666k: Retirement plan of the Beast 666 mg: Recommended Minimum Daily Requirement of Beast 6.66%: 5-year CD interest rate at First Beast of Hell National Bank, $666 minimum deposit Lotus 6-6-6: Spreadsheet of the Beast Word 6.66: Word Processor of the Beast i66686: CPU of the Beast 666i: BMW of the Beast DSM-666 (revised): Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the Beast 668: Next door neighbor of the Beast 667: Prime Beast 999: Australian Beast Those cracked me up!
  9. This is the name the LORD changed me to. Btw, Leonard, I love the name Onesimus, and the story behind it.
  10. Herod was a family name of a line of kings in those days. As someone pointed out earlier, the Herods ruled over Judea even though they were not Jews but Idumeans - that is, descendants of Esau the brother of Jacob (Israel). Ah, politics. The Herod who reigned at the time of Jesus' birth, and who tried to have the baby killed after the visit of the wise men, was Herod the Great. The Herod at the time of Jesus' crucifixion was Herod Antipas, one of Herod the Great's sons. Herod Antipas was also the one who had John the Baptist executed. The Herod in the book of Acts, chapter 12 - the Herod who imprisoned Peter and later died horribly eaten of worms as judgement for his pride - that Herod was Herod Agrippa, a grandson of Herod the Great and nephew of Herod Antipas. (Not to be confused with the King Agrippa of Acts chapters 25 and 26, who was Herod Agrippa's son...) Yes, it's .
  11. Ok, Passover is the 14th day of the 1st month of the Jewish (Hebrew) calendar every year. Since their months start on the day of the New Moon, that means Passover is at the time of the full moon. Passover looks back to the deliverance of the children of Israel from slavery in Egypt, when the LORD sent the 10th plague on the Egyptians, which was the death of the firstborn in each family. The children of Israel were told by the LORD (through Moses) to kill a lamb and put its blood on the doorposts of their houses, then roast and eat the lamb. They were to eat ready to leave. Exodus 11 - 13. Now, right after Passover is a week-long celebration called the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Strictly speaking, Passover is just the one day with the other feast following, but usually the whole 8 days is called Passover. Ok, Jesus and His disciples at the Last Supper were celebrating the start of Passover. He was crucified at the start of the Passover season, and raised during the middle of it. So the reason Passover doesn't come at the same time every year on the regular or Gregorian calendar is because it is figured according to the Hebrew calendar. Easter is figured somewhat differently (not sure how), but it still has to do with the start of Spring and new moons and all.
  12. Dear sheya joie; I am sorry about your husband. Your post reminds me of 2Co 4:17 "For our light affliction, which is for the moment, worketh for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; " in Him; corey ty. That is one of my favorite verses. He passed away 4 years ago, and was praising the Father in his sleep a couple of hours before he died.
  13. My husband is already in Heaven, and the LORD Jesus is there, so knowing those things would make it easier for me to choose the sword. A moment's pain and then Home for good. Still, it's easy to say that now when no one is standing over me with a sword. I pray I would endure to the end.
  14. Some thoughts I have had regarding this verse: Matthew 16:28 - "Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom." Is it possible that seeing the Son of man coming in his kingdom was fulfilled when John saw the LORD's return in the vision on Patmos? Or could this have been fulfilled by the disciples seeing the risen LORD and shortly afterwards receiving power from on high at Pentecost? Any ideas on that?
  15. Three of the Gospels record this miracle, all three placing it directly after the feeding of the 5000. Here are the accounts: Mat 14:22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. Mat 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. Mat 14:24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. Mat 14:25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. Mat 14:26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. Mat 14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. Mat 14:28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. Mat 14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. Mat 14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. Mat 14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? Mat 14:32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Mat 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. Mar 6:45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people. Mar 6:46 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray. Mar 6:47 And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. Mar 6:48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. Mar 6:49 But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out: Mar 6:50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. Mar 6:51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. Joh 6:16 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, Joh 6:17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. Joh 6:18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew. Joh 6:19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. Joh 6:20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. Joh 6:21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went. Kitty had mentioned the storm, and I bolded the parts above that refer to the weather. Now, for Jesus to have been 'merely' walking on ice on top of the water, frankly it would have to have been miraculous ice! After all, the ice would have to form and then remain stable during a 'boisterous' wind storm with tossing waves. Furthermore, the sheet of ice would have needed to extend from the shore where they all had started out some 25 or 30 furlongs into the sea - because that is how far John records that the disciples had rowed before Jesus came to them. I think the scientist needs to read the passage he hopes to debunk a little more closely.

  17. I have often thought that the verse about not boiling a kid in its mother's milk was also related to these concepts: Lev 22:26 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Lev 22:27 When a bullock, or a sheep, or a goat, is brought forth, then it shall be seven days under the dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted for an offering made by fire unto the LORD. Lev 22:28 And whether it be cow or ewe, ye shall not kill it and her young both in one day. Deu 22:6 If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young: Deu 22:7 But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days. Pro 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. In other words, the idea is to avoid cruelity even to one's animals. The animal might not have any idea what's going on, but to slaughter a mother animal's baby and then have her provide the milk to cook it in - isn't that rather heartless?
  18. This is what the Snopes Urban Legends site has to say about it: Proctor & Gamble Hoax (In short, that the rumor is false.)
  19. You are looking for Romans 14. The first part covers what different believers eat and when they worship, and then the final verse says: Rom 14:23 And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
  20. Thank you Sheya. That is precisely the verse I was looking for. What version is that verse from?
  21. I think Dad Ernie was looking for this: Phi 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. and I also found this: Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; But I was also thinking of the reply earlier about thoughts. Not all the thoughts that hit your head are your own thoughts; many of them are attacks from the Enemy. You can take those thoughts captive: 2Cor 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. I kinda picture it like lassoing those varmints and hogtying 'em and handing 'em over to the LORD. (Yes, I live in Texas.) I hope that's a help. I tend to have the opposite problem, the 'princess' mentality.
