  1. I love the message! I have it on audio as well. Would recommend it to anybody who is a Christian. Just make sure they know it is a paraphrase, not a direct translation.
  2. That is way beyond too funny! Loved it! Thompson's with the big red letters.
  3. If the earth is old, God is the author of death and there is no reason for Jesus to save us. Be assured that God told us that the earth was created before the sun. Be assured that God told us that God made man from the dust and woman from the mans side. Be assured that God told us that the earth and universe is only 6,000 years old. Anything else is taking man's word over God's.
  4. Another case of the loud minority getting their way over the silent majority. Very sad.
  5. It shouldn't matter who operates that particular website. The quotes are from the writings of the people who were Christians around 1,600 - 1,900 years ago.
  6. What I am suggesting is that no one person for the first 1,500 years of Church history ever disconnected God's working with baptism until that Zelwegi (sp?) guy. Not one person! This disagreement was no where to be found in the early church as you suggest. All of them were in full agreement in their beliefs that water baptism is the work of God and when He decided to impart salvation to a penitent believer. These are people who were much closer to the time of the apostles than you or I. Please answer this question. Assuming your view of baptism is true, how did it happen that the apostles teaching on the doctrine of salvation was so quickly forsaken? Read some of the quotes! Read about Justin Martyr here = Early Church
  7. This is a fallacious argument. Just because something was believed in the past, does not make it the correct belief. Perhaps you can tell me how the original church completely abandoned the teaching that baptism is just a symbol even when the apostles were alive? Do a search on this subject. Read this: http://www.bible.ca/H-baptism.htm Do you understand my question? What I am trying to show you is that if your view of baptism is correct, why did nobody teach it in the history of the Church until 1,500 years after the Church began?
  8. Here we can break this down into parts. 1. Jesus has the authority for everything for all times. 2. Jesus gives the command to his followers to make disciples everywhere we go. 3. Jesus gives instructions on how to make disciples - through baptism. 4. Jesus teaches us to do good works. 5. Jesus makes us a promise to walk with His followers forever. If people didn't have a presupposed theological bias it would be much more obvious that God is the one who instituted baptism and it is His work, not ours. Be blessed. If my bible is correct, Jesus' commission was give to the eleven disciples who met Him in Galilee, where Jesus made arrangements to meet them. they were to make disciples of all nations (gentiles) baptising them in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Nothing mentioned about water. They would have a hard time immersing the gentiles who dwell in the deserts in water. The followers He referred in # 5 of your post, are his jewish followers. Shiloh was right when he said you baptised into the body of Christ at the moment of receiving Him as your saviour, after repentance, and confessing the fact that you are a sinner in need of salvation. It was the Jews who were commanded to go forth and preach the gospel. The command was to his followers, thus it had to be something they were capable of doing. Mentioning water is pointless since they can only baptise with water. It would be like me telling you to eat something and then having to mention that you must use your mouth to eat, seeing as that is the only way one can eat it would be silly to add that additional point. Check church history - you will see baptism in water for the remission of sins as a work of God all through out until Mr. Z.
  9. Baptism is God's work - not mans work. There is no where in scripture that says baptism is man's work. Look at the Great Co-mission: Here we can break this down into parts. Be blessed.
  10. the Baptism spoken of in romans, particularly Romans 6 is not a reference to water immersion. The word baptism simply means "immerse" it does not mean "immersion in water." if I dunk a cookie in milk that is a "baptism" according to the usuage of the greek word. If you take a bath in a tub of water, that is a "baptism" as well. Perhaps you could give more here. We are immersed into Christ by the Holy Spirit in baptism at the moment of salvation. It is clear from this and other verses. It is also the theological position of the entire Church (universal) until Huldrych Zwingli introduced a different meaning of baptism around Calvin's time.
  11. Kind of silly to be arguing about topics like this. Calvin created a doctrine after 1,500 years of church history and people accept it? That is the definition of silly.
  12. Any other stipulations? Like who can do the baptizing? Let us see! No. It doesn't say here. All it says is that we were buried with Christ in baptism and raised in the power of God, in the same way that God's power raised Jesus from the dead. Parallel passages include:
  13. Colossians 2:12 says that baptism is the work of God and what unites us with Christ.
  14. Someone once told me that many of the hymns that are in our hymnals were words written to pub tunes. (in other words, songs sung in bars while consuming alcoholic beverages)
  15. Man! I went to Biblegateway and did a search and didn't find it. Does the saying have a different meaning today as it did 2k years ago? I seem to remember people saying it when a child is teaching an adult or something along those lines. Biblegateway automatically searches the NIV. The NIV says "From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise.". The one Zadok Rox posted is KJV. gotta love bg.com though. Yea, the problem was that I even searched the KJV because it sounded like a KJV type of language. Don't know what is the problem with me. Maybe I typed it incorrectly or something.

  17. I have often heard this saying: "Out of the mouth of babes" I think I understand what it means. Something to the effect that adults can learn from children. Does anybody know where the origin of this saying is from and the context around it? Thank you!
  18. I plan on visiting there sometime.
  19. Sweet! Thanks!
  20. Thank you again for all your replies!!! EricH, Where have you been listening to them?
