  1. Shalom Sheya Joe, Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I actually edited my original post to explain my question because some readers may not know that some Believers take the L-rd's Supper each Sabbath.
  2. Shalom, This is NOT a debate thread. We are NOT debating what day the Sabbath is, that is plainly stated in Scripture as the 7th day. * (Genesis 2) My question is for those who DO observe the Sabbath on the 7th day. When you have your Sabbath meal on Friday night, do you use Challah (yeasted, braided, egg bread) and use 2 as representative of the 2 loaves of manna that G-d gave the children of Israel in the wilderness, **(Exodus 16) or do you use unleavened bread as Yeshua used in the Last Supper with His disciples during the Passover?*** (Matthew 26:17-29) Just curious, this is NOT a debate. I know some Believers take the L-rd's Supper once a year at Passover, and others observe it every Shabbat. What do y'all do? * ** ***
  3. Shalom Nebula, Unfortunately, as this article shows, they ALREADY have your card number, and all your info. They only need your 3 digit PIN number.
  4. Shalom Shad, Oh, that's too funny! My eldest kids are into more "rock" than I am, so the band I was going to tell you is Skillet and then Disciple. Personally, I like old Bryan Duncan stuff (jazzy). You can hear some of the older stuff (I don't care so much for the NeoSoul stuff, but his solo works are great) at BryanD.com

  6. Holiday Season is just a little bit down the road and the bad guys are already trying to get free stuff by using your credit. Credit Card Scam Snopes.com says this is true. See this site - http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp This Snopes site says TRUE!! This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it. This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & Master Card Telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA', and I was called on Thursday from 'Master Card'. The scam works like this: Person calling says, 'This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a Marketing company based in Arizona ?' When you say 'No', the caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?' You say 'yes'. The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?' Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works. The caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card.' He'll ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers.' There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the next 3 are the security Numbers' that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?' After you say, 'No,' the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do', and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $49799 was charged to our card. Long story - short - we made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master card directly for verification of their conversation. The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers y our 3 Digit PIN Nu! mber, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a 'Jason Richardson of Master Card' with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. Please pass this on to all your family and friends. By informing each other, we protect each other.
  7. Shalom Cardcaptor, I respect your interpretation of the Scriptures and their application concerning what constitutes sexual immorality or unfaithfulness, but I respectfully disagree. There is more to the sex act than physical intercourse. Without being graphic, we all know that there are many ways to commit a sex act with someone other than your spouse and not have intercourse. I believe these are all unfaithfulness and adultery. I do go so far as to state that sexual fantasies and pornography are the same (in my understanding) as what Jesus is referring to here. Jesus is saying that before the Holy Spirit, one had to COMMIT an act to be guilty. Now, we are responsible and accountable for our thought life, fantasies, lust etc. and Jesus says they carry the same weight as the actual act. I believe that literally, as I believe the other Scriptures you posted from this chapter on divorce and remarriage. Matthew 5: 27 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' 28But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  8. Shalom Ruck, Same here, but Ruck, that's not the point of my post.
  9. Shalom, After reading all the pages of this thread I would like to make this observation: The women that are talking about divorce, if your husbands have committed adultery, you are free to divorce. This is what CardCaptor has proven by Scripture. No one is arguing that you do not have a reason or Biblical right to divorce. For anyone else whose husband is alive but has NOT committed adultery (in some form), I believe the Scriptures state you should not seek divorce. A caveat: I DO believe that pornography and fantasy sex lives are sexual immorality and I would consider them adultery. HOWEVER: neither of these are unforgivable. Even those husbands (or wives) who DO commit adultery can be forgiven and restored and the marriage can be stronger. Another thing, why are the ones who are in marriages now considering RE-marriage? If your spouse leaves and you are divorced, what is wrong with G-d being your husband and abiding by the Scriptures to not remarry? You cannot stop your spouse from leaving, but the obedience to G-d comes in when you want to REmarry if there were no Biblical grounds for divorce.
  10. Shalom, It's not just MEGA churches, it's any and all churches, from small to mega, from the city to small towns. Every denomination and persuasion. Why? Because man is sinful without Jesus in control. There but for the grace of G-d go I, and you.
  11. Shalom Butero, Exactly. What we have here is man's ways vs G-d's ways. The Bible makes no bones about using corporal punishment so this argument against it is not Biblically-supported.
  12. Spanking is not "beating." And we are told plainly that the child will not die if he is spanked. I wasn't speaking if you when I made the comments about people replying who were not parents. There were some posts at the beginning of this thread that I was talking about. They said "I"m not a parent yet but I think..." and I was responding to THEM. The Holy Spirit. You are making an argument to disobey the Bible based on what you think SOME people MAY do? Of course it's not wrong to spank a child. It is Biblical. That is the point here. Too m any people are disregarding the fact that the Bible tells us to spank. I'd rather listen to G-d than man.
  13. Shalom, I posted this in the "other" thread and thought it was a good help for those looking for positive ways to celebrate Messiah's birth. This website has some great unit studies for homeschool, but of course they can be done as a family for Christian edification: http://www.athomeschool.com/unitstudy/chri..._symbols_02.htm Christmas Tree And Ornaments History * Christmas Tree o Many legends concerning the origin of the Christmas Tree o Legend #1 + Germany, before Jesus was born, people would decorate evergreen trees during winter solstice ceremonies. + St. Boniface (8th century) was a missionary to Germany. + He used the three points (triangle) of the Christmas Tree as a symbol for the Trinity. + Legend about St. Boniface says that one day he came upon some people who were going to sacrifice a child to one of their gods, symbolized by an oak tree. In order to save the child's life, St Boniface cut the oak tree down with an ax. A fir tree sprang from the stump of the fallen oak. St. Bonficae then told the people that the fir tree stood for the eternal life of Christ. This legend is most likely a story that symbolizes how he replaced the worship of the gods (the oak tree) with Christianity (the fir tree). o Legend #2 + (16th century) Martin Luther was walking home from a Christmas Eve service in the forest. Some say he saw the stars shining through the evergreen trees. Others say he saw the stars reflected off the icicles. The lights reminded him of Jesus, the Light of the World. He cut a small tree and took it home. He placed candles on the branches to reflect what he saw. Legend #3 + Germany, used as prop in medieval play about Adam and Eve + called "Paradise Tree" + preformed annually on Dec 24th + apple trees no longer had their leaves or fruit, so evergreen trees were hung with apples instead + later wafers were hung on the tree to symbolize the eucharist (communion) + eventually cookies and sweets replaced the wafers o Legend #4 + Reform Church (now Lutheran Church) in 1800's, tree is often biblical reference to cross, evergreen because of everlasting life. They decorated it with roses, representing Rose of Sharon, and single candle at the top representing Light of the World (Christ). o Read more about Christmas Trees + The Chronologic History of the Christmas Tree + The History of Christmas Trees + The Christmas Tree Legends * Ornaments o early trees decorated with fruit, nuts, flowers. later cookies and other foods and candles were added. o Star or Angel on top of tree + both in night sky the night Jesus was born o Lights + stars of the heavens + (16th century) Martin Luther was walking home from a Christmas Eve service in the forest. Some say he saw the stars shining through the evergreen trees. Others say he saw the stars reflected off the icicles. The lights reminded him of Jesus, the Light of the World. He cut a small tree and took it home. He placed candles on the branches to reflect what he saw. o Glass Bulbs + German glass blower developed first glass bulbs to replace heavier ornaments o Tinsel + legend, poor family unable to afford decorations for their tree, spiders covered the tree in webs during the night. some traditions add that either the Christ Child or the rising sun turned the webs to silver + The Christmas Cobwebs by Odds Bodkin Modern Christian Symbolism * Christmas Tree o evergreen: symbol of eternal life o tree: biblical reference to cross * Ornaments o Ornaments in general remind us of all of the beautiful things Jesus did o Star or Angel on top of tree + Star of Bethlehem (the one the wise men followed) and Angels who announced Christ's birth o Lights + Jesus is light of the world o Ball Ornaments + our world was created by God; the different colors remind us that the Gospel is for all different nations and peoples on the earth o Tinsel + Generosity and kindness to the poor Bible Verse * Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 14. Shalom again, I think this thread is AWESOME! Thanks for starting it. I've been on message boards for many years and every year it's the same ol' bag of junk. Every Winter we get the "if you celebrate the birth of Christ you're practicing paganism" and every Spring it's "If you celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus you're practicing paganism." What a load! I like THIS thread which says for those of us who DO choose to celebrate the wondrous birth of the Messiah, what can we do to make sure our celebrations focus on the REAL reason for the celebration - Jesus? As I said above, we center our celebrations around Scripture. Some years we do an Advent wreath or Advent calendar. Anyone do those? Oh, by the way, we also celebrate Chanukkah in our home during the month of December as well as my birthday.
  15. Shalom, We LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas!! It's all about Yeshua! It's celebrating, it's feasting, it's rejoicing! The King has come into the world and left Heaven to be born as a baby! We'd shout from the rooftops! It's a joyous, wonderful time to honor what Yeshua did by coming to Earth as a human. We are told in the Scriptures to remember the things that G-d has done for us and to tell our children how G-d has delivered us and what better time than when Jesus came to earth fulfilling prophecy! We light up our home, we read the Scriptures, we sing songs about Jesus, we focus on Him and we REJOICE and honor Him! And we rejoice and celebrate. Did I mention that we rejoice?? Seriously, we don't do anything santa and we center on the miraculous virgin birth of our Savior, Messiah Yeshua.
  16. Shalom Artsy, Who said a thing about "beating"? That's twisting things. Spanking is love. Training up a child in the way he/she should go. A loving parent uses spanking as a training method. There is no "beating" involved, so let's not get things muddled.
  17. Shalom, How did this go from a poll on WHO could spank your children to a debate on whether children SHOULD be spanked or not? Those without children should really wait to comment until they have children, because BEFORE I had children, I didn't know what it was like or the best way to handle things as a parent. After we had 1, we sure knew that spanking was a necessary and beneficial form of training. By the way, we have 5 children. It's like planning your labor and delivery the first time. You think you know what you're going to do, how you're going to react and you make a plan, but when it really happens, you may react differently that you first thought. So, this is the way with child-raising. Wait until you have a child old enough to train and THEN see if G-d leads you to spank. I know for us, we believe the Bible plainly states this is an acceptable form of training our children and is our responsibility.
  18. Shalom, I believe only a Mother or Father should spank their children. Never, never another person, even a school teacher. Scripturally, it is the parent's job to discipline in this way, not anyone else's. I don't turn over the raising of my children to anyone other than hubby and myself and I certainly would never allow anyone else to spank our children.
  19. Shalom Ex, And that sure is a condescending comment. Actually, the Holy Spirit has ALREADY revealed HIS truth to me that we should keep the feast in Yeshua and the Scriptural support as I posted.
  20. Shalom EX, The Scriptures says differently. They say to KEEP the feast, but now in Yeshua. There is no "need" to remember the sacrifice of Jesus? Really? That's not what the Scriptures say. What do you think the L-rd's Table is all about? You just proved my point. We are to take the L-rd's Supper to REMEMBER what Yeshua did. So, yes not only is there a need, but it is Scriptural. But since this topic is SABBATH, I'll leave it at that. I'm not going to debate Passover with you since the topic is SABBATH.
  21. Shalom Ex, The passage does not say to "let go of that holy day" In fact, it says just the opposite! Read it again: Verse 8: Therefore let us keep the feast not with the old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Paul tells us WHY and HOW to celebrate the holy day, as unto the L-rd. #1. Therefore let us keep the feast (this is as plain as you can get to KEEP celebrating the feast) #2. Not with the old leaven (not under the law, not with animal sacrifice, not with a lamb) #3. neither with leaven of malice and wickedness (not in the in the unregenerated fleshly works for works sake and not where our sins have not been forgiven) #4. but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth (the leaven represents sin. Yeshua had no sin. We should celebrate the feast day IN YESHUA and honor His place as the Sacrifical Lamb that was slain in fulfillment of the requirement for Passover. IN Him we are to "keep the feast" and in Him, we are to keep it forever.
  22. Shalom Smalcald, Yes, I do believe you misunderstood my position earlier. You are correct. I do not see NOT observing the Sabbath as any sin. That's EXACTLY what I've been saying from the beginning. We should not judge each other concerning this and certainly not argue about it. We each need to be convinced what WE should do and then do is as UNTO THE L-RD. I agree with this statement. I do wish to re-state that I believe the Feasts of the Bible, especially the 7th day Sabbath are GOOD for G-d's people, it is G-d's Word, and I pray that ever Christian would see the value in it. However, I do not believe it is a sin not to.
  23. Shalom Smalcald, I understand if YOU don't "feel compelled" to observe the Sabbath. That is between you and G-d. You'll never hear me say that it is wrong for a Christian who does not feel led in this area NOT to observe the Sabbath. However, this last post is much different than your previous posts when you insisted that people were doing it "wrong" if they did certain practices as under the L-rd. I also do not see the conflict in knowing G-d says not to steal, not to commit adultery etc. and the Sabbath. If you don't see that in the Scriptures, then you don't. It is not a sin not to observe, nor is it lawkeeping to observe. Are we on the same page?
  24. Shalom Smalcald, There are plenty of truths that are explained in the Scriptures, but not specifically termed. For instance the "Trinity" is nowhere in the Scriptures by term, but it is very clear by doctrine. Yeshua used the term "commandments." He did not have to spell it out, all the people KNEW what He was talking about and they included the 10 commandments. He didn't change them to 9. G-d the Father gave 10 and Yeshua never changed that number. And yet, Romans 14 speaks directly to this and gives us the FREEDOM to observe the days (and Sabbath) as unto the L-rd and not as under the Law.
