One of these days, I need to get myself a digital camera.

Well, for my income - they're expensive!

So I want an inexpensive camera that isn't cheap.

Any digital camera savvy people around who can point me in some specific directions to look into?

Someone mentioned Nikon - I believe it was the Coolpix. But as I look on the website there are too many to choose from. :noidea:

Well, Nikon is one of the higher name brands and are very good, but you mentioned a budget. There are some point-n-shoot types that are good and cheep, and then there are the SLR (single lens reflex) groups can start around $500. Here are two links to what is offered at Dell. Use these for research and check other places for a better price. You can at least get a start here.

Walmart has Sonys for under $100; they have really come down. Don't buy under 5 megapixels though. You can see them at walmart.com.

Don't buy a cheap camera.. it will frustrate you in the end with mechanical issues. Just save $50 each month and then buy a nice camera for a decent price around the $150-200 range. I would personally recommend you a Sony or Canon. Do you guys have Best Buy in the States?

Nikon is good but in my experience they are only noticeably good in the Digital SLR range.

I have a Sony PowerShot, 5.5 megapixel, self focusing, and it takes up to 4 mb photos. It's an excellent camera and it was only about $175 at WalMart.

I don't like the way they are setup for point and shoot. It just feels unnatural to me.. and the quality of the image wasn't so good compared with other companies in my option but I haven't touched a Nikon point and shoot in about 3 years. If you are looking for a Digital SLR then I would recommend it then, they have good picture quality.
