The homicide rate here is lessthan half that of the USA

That would be expected based on our greater population.

You might find this interesting:

"UK is violent crime capital of Europe"

"The United Kingdom is the violent crime capital of Europe and has one of the highest rates of violence in the world, worse even than America, according to new research."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...-of-Europe.html

Crime is measured in different ways in different societies so in general are difficult to compare statisics acurately. Absolute statistics such as homicide rates are, however, much easier to measure and compare. As an American your more than twice as likely to be murdered than a citizen of a Western European country, including Britain.

What is godly about the way the rich become rich?

You seem to think that it's evil to be rich. You also seem to think all rich people became rich by evil means. Can you prove either one?

The Bible does not say it's a sin to be rich. It says the love of money is the root of all evil - not money itself. When you place wealth before God is when it becomes sin.

And again, there is nothing in the Bible about forcing those with money to give to those with less money. The problem with you socialists is you seem to think what belongs to someone elses should be yours if you don't have it. You think that it's a crime for some people to have more money than others. So, is it Biblical to give money to the lazy? The Bible says if you do not work you should not eat. It says nothing about stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor - which is what socialism is all about. If you take money from someone who does not want to give it freely, you are then stealing it!

I think I'll trust what a British newspaper has to say when quoting the European Commission's report about themselves - and they say that Britain is the violence capital of all Europe. I'll go ahead and stay at home in America where it's safer.

And I find it funny that you don't trust statistics when they work against you....

What is godly about the way the rich become rich? What is holy about the wealth of the sweatshop owner, the pornographer, the exploitative multinationals the feudal landowners, the bonused bankers? The rich weren't made rich by God they grabbed what they were able to. What is Ungodly about a society that the benefits of the labour of us all benefits those who need it most? What is unholy about a society that takes that wealth back?

Scripture tells us that the root to all kinds of evil is the love of money, not money itself. People are greedy, this I will agree to, but that is due to sin, not a governmental system. You can not blame a system for the sin of men.

True!

If someone came up to you and reached into your pockets and took some of your money, and said they were doing it order to give it to someone who has less than you, would that be stealing?

Of course it would be stealing!

That's why I can't understand how these Socialists can say with a straight face that taking money by force from those who have more and giving it to those who have less is somehow not stealing!

The homicide rate here is lessthan half that of the USA, see http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/20...try-murder-data so I know where I feel safest.

Statistics have been proven to lie.

What is missing is the reason for the murders (domestic, robbery, gang related, drug related). Most murders in the US are in the cities, and the cause is gang or drug-related.

Socialism won't fix that one iota.

So really, this is a strawman argument.

Socialism is nothing but communism's step-child.

And frankly, I'm getting tired of many Christians and the media saying that the early Christians and Jesus were socialists. There's a big difference in all "giving freely as you are able" and the powers that be taking money from those with more and giving it to those with less.

For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

Ummmm, that has nothing to do with giving freely as you are able and being forced to do it by the government...

5Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

In the Old testament we find see the concept of the Jubilee where every 49 years land is redistributed to its original owners. I see nothing wrong with redistribution in the modern world.

Well then, when the government takes your house and land, sells it and distributes the proceeds between you and five people who have less than you, you'll be okay with that. Right?

There's four of us here already and since the landlord disapeared from his yacht in August (a very strange story in itself), this actually sounds like quite a good idea.

If you have a landlord...you don't own the house. I'm talking about taking YOUR property, selling it and dividing the proceeds. Well then, let's sell your car, cash in all of your CDs and divide that among you and five less fortunate people because, shame on you, you have more than them. Are you on board with that? :whistling:
