and while i agree it is not our place to judge others salvation it is still our place to inspect their fruits and to tell them if they behave unGodly.

Jesus never said don't take the speck from your brothers eye, just to simply take out your own beam first.

Actually, he said exactly that:

First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother

Looking over this scripture at the start in of this thread, I get what Onelight is saying and it's true.

But at the same time a pastor could take the part on lukewarm in that scripture and make a sermon that could wake

up a lot of folks that is just that. I don't see where jsca's post was judging, I just see

her sharing an example about how some Christians are living below what God has created them to be, and thinking they

are getting by, and if they don't wake up....just like the other scripture Onelight provided they will be casted out....jot

I'm glad you realize that there wa snothign judgemental in this thread. Indeed many need to wake up and get right with God. Some will call that being judgemental when you bodly stand up against sin. Jesus stood up for righteousness and so did the apostles. They did not compromise with sin.

btw, I am a he, not a her.

The water the Laodeceans had to use was good for nothing - not hot enough for healing purposes, not cool enough for drinking. So the water analogy was perfect for the city because they could understand the analogy from their own daily living - Jesus compared them to the nasty water they had to deal with day in and day out.

why even bring up parasites? People back then believed in spontaneous generation? The microscope hasn't been invented yet.

They didn't have to know anything about parasites - all they knew was that the water made them sick! And they knew that it had to be treated in a certain way in order for it to make them not-sick.

the water isn't the issue. the talk of parasites is the problem i have.

"Spewing" just shows rejection. it doesn;t have anything to do with parasites.

and my post says exactly what your trying to say.

Jesus never tells us we are not to remove the speck from our brothers eye, but before we can begin to help others fix their problems we are to look at ourselves and ensure we do not have the same problem.

My bad Sir. I was tired yesterday and must have read it wrong. Apologies.

why would Jesus want to drink water in the first place? and why would that analogy fit a story about a church that preaches "prosperity doctrine?"

my study bible talks about the "bacteria and water" analogy but i dont buy it. doesnt fit.

It does fit. Laodecia did not have its own water supply but had water that was piped in from Colosse, and another city. By the time the water reached Laodecia it was full of parasites. Parasites and bacteria grow in lukewarm water. So the water had to be treated before drinking.

Jesus used the lukewarm water as a metaphor for the worldliness of the Laodecians who thought their thin Chrisitan veneer was sufficient and they could live worldly lives.

So, the metaphor does fit when you take into consideration that lukewarm water was something very pertinent to the Laodecians, and was something for which they had a very person frame of reference.

but christ says "i wish you were hot or cold...."

well, if it was hot he'd burn His mouth but be bacteria-free.

If it was cold then bacteria would still grow on it.

parasites can survive in water from cold to warm but yet He wishes it was cold?

why even bring up parasites? People back then believed in spontaneous generation? The microscope hasn't been invented yet.

anyways, i don't want to make it seem like you may be incorrect. the parasite conclusion seems off but the idea involving water is not.

It is just a metaphor./ The metaphor was relevant to the Laodiceans because of the dangers they faced from their water supply. It really is very simple. Jesus wished they were either hot or cold. Cold water and hot water have valuable uses for us. They heal and refresh. But lukewarm water was useless and even more than that, it was sickening. Just like their worldiness was "sickening" in a manner of speaking, to Jesus.

Yeah, it does, historically. The church at Laodecia was a worldly church. The city was known for it textile industry particularly for its manufacture of expensive purple fabric and for a popular medicinal eye salve. It was a rich city due to it high-end customers and demands for both its eye salve and it expensive clothing and textile industry.

Jesus took advantage of that and told them that despite how they saw themselves, They were poor, blind and naked, hitting on all three things that the Laodiceans prided in themselves. He goes on to tie that worldiless to another facet of their lives, their water supply. He told this worldly church that they were a lukewarm and as such, he was vomiting them from his mouth.

They did not need a microscope to know that the water supply had to be treated before drinking it. Just a sip from the tainted water supply before boiling it was all it would take.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
