Great that they finally found some!

The Israeli's announced that they had found a "huge" amount of oil, then further on down they say it's not clear if it can be used for commercial purposes? ? If there indeed is a huge amount, then why wouldn't it be used commercially? While commercially it would be a good thing for Israel, in the long run it will hurt her because it will just give her neighboring arab enemies more fuel to create mischief. Oil has caused more than one war in the Middle East, and of course oil has motivated Islam to create havoc over there. I just read where Iran seized an oil well in Iraq. This could be the catalyst to set off another major war in the area if there is a large amount. This isn't such a good idea IMO for the Israelis to announce they have found a huge amount of oil unless they are looking for trouble to come knocking on their door from their hostile neighbors. Guest shiloh357
Well, one conceivable benefit of this find is that Israel could use the oil to become independent of US foreign aid. I have been a champion of Israel getting off of US foreign aid simply because it would allow Israel more freedom to do what they need to do to defend themselves against Arabs, without the US holding the foreign aid over their heads constantly. Had the US not forced Israel to give the Sinai, Israel would have been finanically independent years ago.

It's all coming to pass...one piece of the puzzle at a time.

This is a small field by global standards. However, at the current price of oil (about $77 per barrel), and assuming that the company will not revise these numbers, sales could range between $3.85 billion and $9.99 billion.
