Two recent analyses - one psychological, the other legal - may debunk lenient modern parenting the way the Climategate e-mail scandal has short circuited global warming alarmism.

fascinating studies, and they confirm exactly what i've always believed. sadly though, it won't have an effect on spanking i don't think, because most people will never even read it. this certainly isn't going to get the media attention that climategate got.

This literally just goes to show that you can find a "scientific" study to justify just about anything. Including the hitting of children by adults...lol. :45:

There are several obvious flaws in the Newsmax piece. First, there is NO COMPARISON to the almost 4000 leaked emails from leading climate scientists from the leading scientific center on global warming. Two studies from a psychologist and a legal activist hardly compare to that debacle. The fact that Newsmax feels the need to try to make that stretch is a clear indicator that the WEALTH of evidence on the subject of spanking goes against these two studies (as they are presented in the article.) Clearly, one can immediately assume that the article isn't going to present the studies truthfully...which made me look into it further.

Secondly, the Newsmax piece has SEVERAL glaring omissions. First, all of the 'positive' results noted in the story were on children ages 2-6. It also did not mention that these so-called studies did not track the severity or frequency of the spankings. I would think any true study on the subject would think frequency and severity are important. Newsmax also chose to leave out the findings that after age 6 (i.e. when a child may remember the beating administered by an adult) the consequences of spanking became increasingly negative. I have NO idea why newsmax would leave out that tid-bit of info? :whistling:

Another thing Newsmax failed to mention...the psychologist who did the study, Marjorie Gunnoe, is not pro-spanking. In fact, she does not promote spanking children at all. How odd that Newsmax would choose to quote Mrs. Gunnoe one time (probably out of context) as if she supports spanking...but fail to show this quote from Mrs. Gunnoe..."This in no way should be thought of as a green light for spanking," said Gunnoe, who has studied spanking for more than a decade." Why, that quote would have been completely at odds with the entire Newsmax article...lol.

Newsmax also chose to gloss over Jason Fullers spanking study..presumably because they didn't actually read the entire 76 page study. While the study does focus on Sweden...and it does support allowing parents to spank...it does NOT say that spanking is the way to go. The entire study, which is done by a law student, examines how Swedens legal process in regards to spanking has effected parents discipline. Mr Fuller doesn't necessarily blame the lack of spanking for Swedens youth problem...but rather blames the parents for becoming more abusive and uncontrollable after they lost the ability to spank. In other words...parents who are told not to spank become abusive, leading to abusive children...therefore we should allow parents to spank...lol. In light of Mr Fullers study. I am inclined to agree that spanking a child is better than other more forceful forms of abuse.

i rest my case.

oh wait, my case was not many people would read it.

my second case should have been that the naysayers would never believe it anyway.

as someone who was spanked as a child, and who spanked my own children when they were young, i need no study to prove the obvious to me. like axxman said, you can find a studies to support anything you want, and i'm sure he can cite plenty that support his assertion that anyone who spanks is abusive. we've had that discussion, haven't we axxman? :whistling:

lol...yeah, I think we've discussed it a time or two. :P

As someone who is raising four children without spanking them the results seem pretty obvious to me. The point that I was making in my post was that Newsmax did not accurately report the results of the study therefore they should not be believed. If the lady conducting the study doesn't even hold the view that Newsmax is trying to spread...then why should anybody believe it?

truth be told, no media is ever going to accurately represent anything.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
