Arizona Governor Signs Controversial Immigration Bill

FOXNews.com

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed a controversial bill that seeks to crack down on illegal immigration.

The sweeping measure will make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It will also require local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are in the country illegally.

Earlier, President Obama called the bill "misguided" and said it could violate people's civil rights. The bill's Republican sponsor, state Rep. Russell Pearce of Mesa, said Obama and other critics of the bill were "against law enforcement, our citizens and the rule of law."

Yes, this is a victory. However, did you hear what President Obama had to say about it? If I were the Governor of Arizona I would have politely asked him to leave the State and to go back to Washington and mind his own business. :emot-crying:

my family is mexican and i support this. I am tired of seeing my people working for pennies.

i know that parties are using race for their points but I see this as stopping modern day slavery.

I'm just sick of some people screaming racism every time immigration reform comes up. As though asking or even demanding ANYONE who wants to live in this country do so legally is somehow racist. It's pathetic. I don't care who you are or what your original nationality was, I welcome you with open arms, so long as you DO IT LEGALLY! Hubby worked with several Croatians who had come here and neither of us had any issue with that. Why should we? They did it through legal channels are are now legal citizens of this country. The fact is, with the obvious exception of Native Americans, we are all immigrants. My distant family history traces back to England and Germany. Just a few generations ago, my family chose to come here for whatever reason and that eventually let to me. We are a nation of immigrants and there isn't a thing at all wrong with that. I just have no respect for those who refuse to seek their residency through legal channels. I don't think they deserve to be given the same rights and privileges of legal citizens. If they are granted these things then it is an outright slap in the face of every person who has done the right thing and gone through the proper channels.

Of course, I can well understand why Obama would dislike the law. As far as I'm concerned, I still haven't been convinced beyond doubt that he is himself a legal citizen of this country. :emot-crying:

I wonder if Obama visits Arizona if the police will ask him if he is a immigrant.

If the DOJ would just enforce the laws on the books, then States wouldn't have to take these measures.

How would he prove it, he doesn't have a birth certificate. :emot-hug::emot-hug::emot-hug::emot-hug:
