In the title of your topic there is a question, being, "What is the relationship between faith and love?"

I believe that the relationship between, faith and love, is the "grace" of God. For it was the love of God who sent his only begotten Son into this world so that all who would believe in him would not perish, but have everlasting life, and what a promise that was given from our Heavenly Father above. As you said, in you OP that while we were yet sinners Christ died for the ungodly.

Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed "abroad" in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Romans 5:2 By whom also we have "access" by "faith" "into this grace" wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have "access" by one "Spirit unto the Father."

2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his "unspeakable" gift. {there are no words that one can use to describe fully the grace of God because it has no end. Ephesians 3:17-21}

Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Ephesians 2:8 For "by" grace are ye saved "through" faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the "gift of God"

Christ in us the hope of glory

Faith is an action word, the very root of the word in Hebrew is aman. In Numbers 11:12 the phrase 'nursing father' is used to show the relationship of faith and love I think. Faith means a strong trust also and I am not sure you can love unless you have that strong trust, through the faith that He gives us we can stand firm in His love for us and our love for Him.
