Obama Administration Set to Ban Asthma Inhalers Over Environmental Concerns

Remember how Obama recently waived new ozone regulations at the EPA because they were too costly? Well, it seems that the Obama administration would rather make people with Asthma cough up money than let them make a surely inconsequential contribution to depleting the ozone layer:

Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government's latest attempt to protect the Earth's atmosphere.

Wow - I have severe asthma and I use a prescription inhaler twice a day and a prescription rescue inhaler just about every day and I also take accolate which is a pill twice a day for my asthma and I still have problems breathing. Over-the-counter inhalers wouldn't really help me, but people that need them for mild asthma will be at higher risk to develop a worse problem w/out otc inhalers. If they want to be able to breath, they will be forced to get a prescription when they don't need one. And, I'm sure there are much more bigger problems causing ozone depletion.

There are good reasons not to use these inhalers other than environmental reasons. They removed the same propellants from prescription albuterol a year or so ago and when they did i found that I was addicted to that propellent. Though it's more expensive, it really is good they changed it.

As for theese over the counter's, we'll see how long it takes before the companies bring out the same ingredience with a different propellant for near the same price. As I understand it you can still get and use the hand nebulizers with the over the counter. It's kild of a pain, but it works well.

Inhaling Freon 12 has never been healthy, and it causes people to overuse the drug...... That desision is being made by insruance companies now, and they are driven by greed. While I do not disagree with your concern of government choices, I also am old enough to remember why we put such heavy state controls on insurance companies.... they are not even as trustworthy as the federal government.

The fact remains brother, you are losing your freedom of choice. I understand that the new propellents (which are worse than the cfc's regarding long term health consequences) will triple the cost of the OTC inhalers which will put it out of the reach of the people who need it the most. (Those without health insurance). This is another regulatory move to force the populace into Government run Health Care. It's also based on a flawed premise, Global Warming.

Sadly, when you opt for security and place your trust in Government you lose freedom.

Peace,

Dave

I would really disagree with that Dave. We already have government run health care and have for many many years, and this move by the FDA has nothing to do with forcing anyone to do anything other than not do long term damage to their lungs and brains from inhaling Freon and/or butane' and for the Freon damage the ozone layer.. Not everything the FDA does is bad. I see three doctors regularly with my asthma and all three of them agreed with the change along with the specialists at the VA which is totally government controlled healthcare already.

Did you actually read the article?

Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government's latest attempt to protect the Earth's atmosphere.

The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday patients who use the epinephrine inhalers to treat mild asthma will need to switch by Dec. 31 to other types that do not contain chlorofluorocarbons, an aerosol substance once found in a variety of spray products.

The action is part of an agreement signed by the U.S. and other nations to stop using substances that deplete the ozone layer, a region in the atmosphere that helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun.

But the switch to a greener inhaler will cost consumers more. Epinephrine inhalers are available via online retailers for around $20, whereas the alternatives, which contain the drug albuterol, range from $30 to $60.

This is a push by the Federal Government in agreement with Global Governance to restrict your freedom and to push a flawed agenda, despite what your Doctor says. It will harm those without health insurance who will now have to pay triple the cost for an inhaler.
It is also a Global agenda to change your way of life brother.

Those who run to Egypt will die in Egypt.

Jer 42:15

And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, you remnant of Judah; Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If you wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

Jer 42:16

Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which you feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, of which you were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there you shall die.

Peace,

Dave
