If it refers to feeding the hungry, helping the weak, caring for the elderly and orphaned, giving to those in need, etc. If that is the issue, I believe those things transcend any and all religious faiths. There are many, many people --- Christians as well as non-Christians --- who engage in this sort of work. Helping one's fellow man is never a bad thing, IMO. It came forth from the ideal of Holiness, in all denominations. As an example John Wesley was known to say; "There is no Holiness save Social Holiness" While Mother Theresa has said; "Holiness is not the luxury of a few. It is everyone's duty, yours and mine." Holiness isobvious when one examines Mother Theresa's life. Social Justice in example amongst the Catholics would be their reverance for life and support for the abolition of Abortion. Social Justice amongst the Protestants in example would be the Holiness denominations and the Methodists of the early 20th century in the early 1900's who fought for abolition of slavery, like William Wilberforce, and Luther Lee and the womens sufferage Movement. Here's the thing though, the term Social Justice has been taken captive in this modern day by a nasty and abhorent sect of Christianity that is in fact heretical. It is Libeation Theology and in particular Black Liberation Theology. It demands that Social Justice be practiced by the Government and at the point of a gun or force, to include theft by redistribution of wealth, as an equalizer for past wrongs and supposed past wrongs. This has nothing in fact whatsoever to do with True Holiness as expresed in Nebula's OP which leads to Social Justice. If we are Holy, as indeed God is Holy, we will seek Justice for the oppressed but not at the point of a gun or the force of a Government. We will seek it from our own hands and our own feet, from our very mouths and Bodies subjected to the Rule of Christ and bound in the only way to express Social Justice, LOVE! Blood Red Love! Fighting for whats right does necessarily mean compromising the gospel-you can compromise the gospel, certainly, but that doesnt mean everyone does. NGO's? that is what i meant by social justice.im for what mlk and wilberforce did. but they did it without compromise. what is taught today is that we should join with the sinners to help the poor. i disagree as well the sinner wants abortion and condoms as part of that plan. If you are rich and I am poor, my poverty places a moral obligation on you to eradicate it. Furthermore, you should not have more or less than me in terms of resources, especially money. Social Justice breeds an attitude and environment of entitlement. The Torah commands the farmer to leave the corners of his fields for the poor and to leave the loose shafts of wheat that fall on the ground. The poor still had to come and pick it themselves. There was no entitlement, no handouts. If a man doesn't work, he doesn't eat. The Bible in the NT teaches we should help and look after the widow and orphan, but then only when they are absolutely unable to fend for themselves. There was no sense in which being an orphan or a widow meant that you were entitled to benefits. I Tim. 5 lays out the conditions for how the church is to handle widows. If they have families their familes were to take care of them, not the church. Younger widows were to marry and bear children. If the lived in an immoral way, the church was not to take care of them.
