Rock a bye baby was a satyrical song about the royal family ... " top of the tree " refers to royalty ..when the bough breaks is a reference to when an alliance that was made to keep an infant child on the throne was broken the whole royal line would fall

popping the weasel is a slang term for pawning something ... the whole song is about feckless men going to all the pups *( back and for the mulberry bush in and out of the eagle half a pound of tuppeny rice , half a pound of treacle ...reference to drinks .. thats the way the money goes ...poop goes the weasle ( pawn something to get money )

and prov..you cant steal last tis way
