So is it really true that God won't give us more than we can handle?  Please think and read carefully I Corinthians 10:12-13 before answering to fast.  Not trying to cause a debate, just had one of those weeks, where I'm started to pray for a real short life.

8)  For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

9)  But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead.

II Corinthians 1:8-9

Having so much trouble trusting God right now.

I always think, how much can I handle. I think whenever we receive what seems to me more then we can handle, believers in Jesus have only one thing left to do. Turn to Jesus. When that happens:

Phil 4:13  I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Now the whole question of how much we can handle changes dramatically. I do not mean to say tough times are easy. Or belittle what it feels like, because I know some of what it feels like. But I do know that these times drive us to Jesus and when the rough times end, we realize how the Lord has kept us. Even when we do not think we can hold on, the Lord has kept us.

1 Corinthians 10

13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is

faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the

temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it

2 Corinthians 6:3-5
We put no stumbling block in anyone's path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger;

2 Corinthians 12:10
That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

and...

Rom 5:3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,

Rom 5:4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,

Rom 5:5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

I've done that.

Ended up with cancer.

God is usually the first to get blamed for things that are caused by the individual in the bathroom mirror.

You mean that their are consequences to our actions?

Think of God as our Dad. When you are a baby Christian, God isn't going to make you make a 7 course dinner, He is going to start with teaching you how to cook and giving you people that are going to help feed you. As you grow, you might lose some of these people because you are more independant, As you grow, you are capable of doing more things.
