I fully understand the growing numbers of homelessness.  Large cities are not the only place this happens, it happens even in the rural areas of the North East.  Here is a video about where I work.  We are a unique shelter, the first in the nation on how we operate, though we are far from the first to be a shelter.  Where I work is called the Upper Valley Haven, located in White River Junction, Vermont.

My reasons' for posting this is not to slam the church, but to open our eyes to the things going on around us.

Just watch and listen.

We all already know what causes homelessness.....

the true question here is....What's the answer??

Many many churches had to start locking their doors at night because they were being robbed....Desperate people will do desperate thing's...

Fear is a big motivator here as well, but it motivates people to turn a blind eye to the problems that the homeless face.....

it motivates the homeless not to trust people as well, they have been so mistreated...trust is gone....

Some caring soul's will stock van's with hot soup & sandwiches...blankets..bathing kits ect and hit the inner city streets at night with this precious help....and GOD BLESS THEM FOR DOING SO!!

BUT in reality this is like putting a bandaide on a flood......

this is part of the solution to be sure!!

i heard a minister in the early 80's that said "IF every Church just took care of 7 families, there would be no homeless"..He was right! in my opinion.....

If every church truely looked after the families in their communities, thisinate homelessness!

AS for The Churches allowing the homeless to stay in the Church at night...There can be common sense things put in place to eliminate robbery ect...

can one person do this..no...but together we become a mighty army, that have one mission....to love and care for people..to bring them diginity, hope, and the essencials of life!....

stop and think about it...when was the last time you had a headache??? and you went to get a tylenol.....now imagine having that headache and NOT being able to take something as simple as 2 tylenol....because you can't afford them.....

and none are available to you.....

our part is to pray, volunteer, give, and let God handle the rest.
