"Entitled “Wastefulness is the biggest source of Energy”, Schemerberg’s igloo aims to raise awareness to the amount of energy people are wasting nowadays. A huge electrical meter set up outside the igloo shows passers-by how much electrical energy the 322 old fridges would consume, and is meant to inspire them to think carefully about how much energy they are wasting every day. " Aside from the electric meter, there is also a sign outside accounting for all materials used in the project, including 15.684 Vector Lines, 13 bars of concept chocolate, 10.5 tons of weight, 322 refrigerators, 30.780 watts of energy, 1.718 meters of wire, 35 pairs of gloves, 487 sandwiches made by Mummy, (49.000 calories), 120 leisure-time beers. Most of the crazy stuff are inside the igloo.
Guest P_W
Kewl! I have also seen shipping containers modified for homes. They are quite popular in some areas, from what I have read. Not enough room for me! Peace, Prair Replied before I read! LOL Based on energy consumption, even the shipping containers were energy efficient. But still .... as I said, I need ROOM! Don't fence me in ........

LOL,it even looks pretty good, very much like an igloo..............I have no idea how it would make one feel inspired to conserve energy?Knowing how much energy one refrigerator might heighten awareness ,but 322?It's a conversation piece, that's for sure................I have never seen it before. We laughed, wondering if it were an air raid shelter. It turned out to be a root cellar, such as used here over 100 years ago but still very effective. So, bring back the root cellars and save on electicity, though I have to say that digging one takes a lot of energy.

Peace, Prair Yes, I know what you mean. 20Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Does it ever occur to us, that we might not really need a home, bigger than the king of the universe needed? I live in a spacious home now, no way I could manage living in these tiny things: The Shipping Container House questions the need for space in our day to day lives and challenges us to be more efficient. Coming in at only 1,517 sq ft, this compact home packs in a lot of functionality.

Well, perhaps instead of digging down, you build on the ground and then bury the home. Earth sheltered homes were my specialty when I was an architecture student. More and more Americans are building tiny houses, drawn to the prospect of financial freedom and a smaller ecological footprint. Gianna Palmer reports on the growing movement from Charlotte, North Carolina. "For many tiny house owners, their home offers more than simply shelter - it represents a milestone in personal development." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26964724

What I don't like is lack of storage space!
