What does the Bible say about how we should dress?

What are some verses that tell use how we should dress? Either as men or women or in general.

Gen 3:21

21 And the LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.

NASB

 

 

Since we don't know what kind of skin,, I would assume either leather, deer or sheep skin would do well.

Some old testament verses -

 

Deuteronomy 22:5
"The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God."

 

Daniel 3:21 "Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace."

 

Isaiah 13:22 "And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare"

 

 

I can't think of much in the new testament but one. 1 Timothy 2:9 "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;"

 

Jesus said not to worry about what to wear. Mathew 6:25 "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?"

 

With all this in mind, think about Adam and Eve, they were naked before they ate of the tree of knowledge.  After they ate of it. They were ashamed they were naked.  As in humiliation.  They were thinking about flesh.  And covered themselves up.  The NT teaches you to turn away from the flesh, and when the flesh dies, you walk in spirit.

 

A women should dress like a women, a man should dress like a man.  

 

 

You have the basic female and male, and certain clothes can either add to the masculinity or femininity, or take it away.  And then certain apparel can promote someone to lust and objectify the flesh.  But God sees us like X-ray vision and sees us naked.  

 

There is old testament law about a man will not lie with another man - Leviticus 18:22 "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."  

 

A christian is under grace, not under the law. Galatians 3:24 "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith." but a saint should know and follow the law, and have the faith of christ.  Revelation 14:12 "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."   

 

A woman should dress like a woman, and a man a man. Notice the word effeminate in this new testament verse. 1 Corinthians 6:9 "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,"   I don't see this as a listen or die command like Leviticus 18:22, but just a simple fact.  The effeminate will not inherit the kingdom of God.  Why? because effeminate men have Satanic energy in them.  Satan will not enter in the gates of the kingdom of God.
