I heard a message on this subject and thought I would share a bit of it here. I had heard the concepts before, but as I look at different people in the Bible and then at different situations playing out around me, I realized how true these things are.

Three Things Sin Will Always Do

1. Sin will always take you farther than you wanted to go.

2. Sin will always keep you longer than you wanted to stay.

3. Sin will always cost you more than you were willing to pay.

Demonstrated in the life of Samson.

1. Sin will always take you farther than you wanted to go.

Judges 16:5-20

5  And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.

6  And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

7  And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

8  Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withes which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

9  Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he broke the withes, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

10  And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.

16:11  And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

12  Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he broke them from off his arms like a thread.

13  And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.

14  And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.

15  And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.

16  And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

17  That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

18  And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath showed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

19  And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

20  And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he knew not that the LORD was departed from him.

Samson , though chosen by God to be a particular servant and a judge of Israel , spent a lot of his life dabbling in sin. In this particular instance, he fell in love with a woman named Delilah. She was a wicked woman who plotted against him. Three times she teased him into telling what the secret of his strength was, and three times he teased her and deceived her, but the fourth time he told her the truth. Samson

I never got back to this, but we've all seen this work our both in the scriptures and in our own lives and the lives of people around us.

The story of David and Bathsheba. It ended not only with the death of Uriah and the baby they conceived, but the sexual sins , rebellion and murder among David's other grown children were a direct result of Nathans decree that David would pay fourfold for his sin.

Think of a time when you have dabbled just a bit in sin and it carried you so much further than you thought it would. 1. a small lie that grew.......2 pulled others into it and then ....3 maybe cost you a friend or tarnished your reputation.

A couple who spends too much time alone going beyond what they had thought they ever would. Pregnancy and the loss of plans and dreams for the future.

We never know where we'll end up or how much it will cost us when we begin play with sin.

Wow...I can truly relate to this study. Thank you for posting it. It is a reminder to resist temptation. I used to have a carnal attitude that I wanted to try almost anything once. I was rebellious, and did not want to listen to wisdom, but was foolish and pain dearly. Thank God for His mercy, and that God will somehow use my past to minister to others who are lost and hopeless. There is always hope in Christ. Avoiding temptation and the sin it results in is something I try to walk in daily. I don't always succeed, but I have found that God always seems to give me a way out of temptation, I just have to be willing to seek it.

That was an excellent look at a rather popular story. I've read that story several times and it never made me think quite that much. Another point I got from it was how in the end God answered his prayer, even after all that Samson had done to distance himself from Him. I think it just shows how merciful and loving God really is, no matter how far we stray and no matter what unforgiveable thing we think we've done. That is also the same with David. I find that absolutely amazing how loving and open God's arms really are. Thanks for posting this and giving me the reminder!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
