This customer came into the store. She says she has this new credit card that has a chip in it. Has anyone heard of that before. What is the chip for.

Chip and Pin

Had them ages in the UK, a safer way of doing transactions, instead of a signature on the card (which can be forged) they require a pin number that only you know. So if your card is stolen it cannot be used, but only really fully effective when all retailers are using the same system.

We have had the chip for a while and also a "tap and go" some card readers...a feature I like...permits you to tap the chip to it and it reads the info and you do not need to enter the code. It is odd to go to the U.S. ans have to swipe and sign..retailers balk because of the cost of the card readers.

chips are far safer, unlike the strip, its easier to copy the chip using cheap scan tools.

incidentally, theyre also the mark of the beast. Saw that on facebook.

They are mark of beast ???

No, I was poking a little fun there.

And to those whom may concern yes I meant magnetic strip...
