  1. Your posts seem detached from reality, of course people want truth but when someone expresses an opinion, and moreover clearly states it is an opinion, then what do you see as 'untruth' about asking for a clarification of that opinion ? Sorry jeff, at least to me you are making no sense at all. AIP
  2. Again, what on earth are you on about ? 'other one ' expressly stated it was their opinion QUOTE: 'I can safely say that it is my opinion that you are either very uninformed or just don't have a grasp on reality' Now if you could perhaps explain how your post relate to my reply to other one ?
  3. What on earth are you on about Jeff ? did you even read 'other one's' post ?
  4. Your comment seems entirely unrelated to my post, and how does it relate to anyone's grasp of reality.. in your opinion of course ?
  5. I'm not even sure if it even matters or what the point is really, the amount of violence implied or otherwise has no bearing on whether something is true or not. If the Quran were fill of rose petals and nice stories wouldn't make it true, just nice.
  6. No.. paper and metal cannot be evil, evil takes intent. The love of money (over the Lord) however can lead to all kinds of sin.
  7. You are not alone... It's great stuff, I am fascinated by things like this my only regret in life at all is that I wasn't born in an era of fast space travel. Maybe one day trips to Pluto will be common I always have this dream that mankind was meant to expand into the stars and populate the universe, but that sin held us back I do not want humankind in it's current state to pollute the universe with sin. I will find out soon what the truth about the Lord's purpose in such a big universe is I'm sure Andy
  8. Because we love them and dearly miss them, they have become part of our lives and it creates a void in us. Same for instance when my daughter left to go to university, she was excited about starting a new life looking forward excitedly to her new adventures. I took her to university she is leading a very happy life and I see her often but miss her dearly. I know that it's best for her to go seek her own path and I know she is very happy but what Father ..or Mother would simply forget they had a child and move on. I'm sure many people could give many more examples.. goodness i even miss people when they are on holiday sometimes, even though I know they are having a great time !! I'm a bit mystified about how anyone could even serioulsy ask such a question, seems obvious to me. Andy
  9. It just is, you don't have to say anything, but I know what you mean, maybe one day they will manage to fit the whole alphabet in !!
  10. In the U.K the Church of England cannot marry same sex couples, it was legislation designed to protect the church from civil law suites, even under European law. In her statement to the House of Commons on 11th December on the Government's proposals for Equal Marriage, the Secretary of State said: "because the Church of England and Wales have explicitly stated that they do not wish to conduct same-sex marriages the legislation will explicitly state that it would be illegal for the Churches of England and Wales to marry same-sex couples. Mr Speaker, this provision recognises and protects the unique and Established nature of these churches. The church's canon law will also continue to ban the marriage of same-sex couples. Therefore, even if these institutions wanted to conduct same sex marriage, it would require a change to primary legislation at a later date and a change to canon law. Additional protection that cannot be breached." It is unclear though how this affects other churches, we will have to wait for a test case to see I suppose. Andy
  11. I did a quick google not sure what this church is but i found this. http://www.emmanueluc.ca/2014/07/05/rainbow-flag-to-flown-outside-the-church/ What!?! There's a Q now good grief. LGBTQ. What the heck is the q for?? I'm afraid to ask Again I did a quick Google.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT Querying or questioning.. ? it suggests an in-between state
  12. I did a quick google not sure what this church is but i found this. http://www.emmanueluc.ca/2014/07/05/rainbow-flag-to-flown-outside-the-church/
  13. Pfft, you should all get off facebook (Farcebook as I call it) now.. it's not about you .... it's all about Me Me Meeee. I have only just opened a facebook account, and i think all I tend to post is pictures I take and the occasional news story or you tube link. Like all media it can be fun bt it is amazing the strangers who want to add you and what they post. Andy
  14. I hope the perfume was worth it, sadly experience tells me that things which come in war shaped bottles are rarely top class perfumes !
  15. I think it comes back to loving one another.. The Sisters have to have love for their brothers, dressing in a manner that is fitting, that will not allure or capture unwanted glances, though of course this will change from culture to culture, they have to remember that a man's eye is quick.. That the brothers are her family in the Lord precious and loved by the King of Kings The Brothers have to remember that if Sister does dress inappropriately it is not an invitation, that if she smiles at him, it is not a come-on, that she is his sister in the Lord, precious set aside to be honoured and loved, she should feel safe in the family of God. When i have come across this in the church, I have asked a mature sister in the Lord to have a word with the younger sisters rather than approach them myself, so that they can be gently taught the way of the Lord in these matters, without feeling embarrassed or picked upon. And the young men likewise need to be taught with gentleness, sometimes coming from the world into the Lords family can be a bit of a shock.. But in all that we do on these matters, they should be done in love, teaching scripture in a gentle manner. Praise be to the lover of our souls Amen Andy
  16. Social media is just that.. media, a method of communication. The media cannot be good or bad on it's own, it simply carries whatever information is put into it. Andy
  17. Okay here's what you said in your post what I actually said was... italics & bold added I was not claiming the U.K. didn't have gun crime, so far as the incident itself is concerned you seem to be making my point not yours, if he didn't have access to a gun then he wouldn't have been able to shoot those people period. the most honest thing to say is we don't know what would have happened had he not had a gun available, to surmise that he would have just used a bomb or Poisonous gas or something else is venturing into the unknown, the man was very ill mentality, he could just as easily committed suicide (which he did at the end) very unpredictable. Truth is we have no idea. As to your second point, yes people do use bombs but to say they used a bomb because they couldn't get a gun is pure fanciful thought the two need not be related at all,a link to any gun laws or none is redundant. I agree Gun laws as of themselves change little after all people already break the law, you don't have to be Einstein to get that one. It was only after the U.K. had its gun amnesty (a surprising amount of guns were given in) and Australia had it's 'buy back' scheme that gun crime started dropping in the respective country's, Law and action have to work together. Peace Andy
  18. Yes I think I can agree with that not only is there a very profound cultural difference at least concerning gun ownership, I think there may as well be a critical mass of ownership as it were that once passed makes gun laws unenforceable even undesirable. To truly have an American perspective I would have had to have grown up there. Here we don't understand why anyone would want to keep a gun in the house, to the average American however it's a right written into their very DNA, very different perspectives. It may surprise you to know that I actually support the right for what's it's worth as a non U.S. citizen for a U.S. Citizen to bear arms, and I understand how it came about. Peace Andy
  19. No fuel added at all.. Your first link has very old statistics (2002 and 2006/7) there is much more modern data available, the article itself was written in 2009 (6 years old) , I did try and dig out the information it quoted for those years it covered though but couldn't find any that correlated with that report in the archives from its quoted source, I will try later when I have more time. EDIT: I have found out why there is no findable correlation between it's report and the source, it was in fact sourcing from freerepublic.com and not from the Australian Bureau of crime statistics. As for the second link, Yes of course statistics are often challenged, that in my opinion is a good thing, but they do not doubt that crime is on it's way down. Andy
  20. Really.. really I'm just dumbfounded you fall for such silly sleights of hand.. Yes of course IF all America had the same rate as Plato then it would be ranked... etc but all America certainly does not have that rate. . that's what I actually said, but it's a meaningless and dishonest way to view things. Let me try and explain in a simple way... again If I were to present a video about crime statistics as a whole in the U.S.A. and I said on the video that there was a small town that had no recorded crime, then I went on to say that IF all America was like this then it would be flat bottom of the crime statistics in the world, and then to add to that tomfoolery I compared it with country's that I was taking the whole country's crime rate into account , and then went on to say that country was worse than my very best example and that it was a crime ridden nation when compared to the U.S.A.. I would sincerely hope you would shake your head, see through my ruse and say to yourself that guy's nuts!! It is not a fact, not should it be presented as one it is purely a mental exercise a bad one at that, but bears no resemblance whatsoever to reality. Hmm let me see a URL with the word 'guns' and 'facts' in it must be true hey, though I do like the massive metallic 'GUN' and plea for donations, and the the flashing support us banners.. oh and the pop ups... must be a unbiased professional trustworthy site Andy Edited for kindess
  21. Actually it does I've already provided a link for the falling crime in the U.K. We have had no parallel increase in homicides by other means http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/apr/24/crime-rate-england-wales-falls-lowest-level-33-years And in Australia its had a good effect. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/08/02/did-gun-control-work-in-australia/ I Quote So what have the Australian laws actually done for homicide and suicide rates? Howard cites a study (pdf) by Andrew Leigh of Australian National University and Christine Neill of Wilfrid Laurier University finding that the firearm homicide rate fell by 59 percent, and the firearm suicide rate fell by 65 percent, in the decade after the law was introduced, without a parallel increase in non-firearm homicides and suicides. That provides strong circumstantial evidence for the law's effectiveness. The paper also estimated that buying back 3,500 guns per 100,000 people results in a 35 to 50 percent decline in the homicide rate Now as for the higher gun crime rate cities in the who have banned guns and have very strict licensing laws did so because gun crime was already out of control, way way above the national average to use them as an example of how gun laws don't affect the crime rate is statistical stupidity in itself. Follow you own advice and think Critically and you wont fall for such simple tricks. Now lets get to the city comparison here is what he says .. pay attention.. If ALL of America had the same murder per capita rate of Plano Texas (the lowest per capita murder rate in the U.S.) (0.4) then America would not be 111 but 211 on the list. He THEN compares the figure with other country's statistics (high crime rate cities included) and says ..look hey we would be better than them, Pat seriously.. you really cannot see that its an absolutely meaningless and deceptive comparison. ? I feel much safer here in the U.K. I am far less likely to be a victim of crime than in the U.S. yes the population of the U.S. is bigger, but the country also is much bigger, we are far more densely populated than the U.S. and that's where most crime takes place, really we should have higher per capita crime rate than you. Andy Added after main post: what is of interest is that Detroit s homocide rate dropped by 14% 2012 ~2013 Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Detroit In 2013, Detroit's number of criminal homicides was 333, a reduction of 14% compared to 2012. However, taken in context by population, Detroit remains as a city with one of the highest rates per capita for homicide in the United States.
  22. How so ? Biased in what way ?, it's simple statistics not a philosophical viewpoint ?? Yes, but failing to see what the point is, how the guns get there is of no value to the points being made how does that matter ? Yes I agree but again no one is arguing that point, it was already pointed out that the U.S.A. is not at the top of the list for violent crime. I cannot speak for Australia I will look this up, but crime in the U.K. as whole is significantly down http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/apr/24/crime-rate-england-wales-falls-lowest-level-33-years Well yes, but again that's irrelevant to gun crime, no one is arguing that having a gun makes you kill anyone as of itself. But the U.K. too has had people who intend harm to others, but do not have the number of mass killings you have because the tools generally are not available. There are of course exceptions like 9/11 and 7/7 but exceptions they are not the norm when people decide to kill others. Okay this is a simple one he's loosing all your big cities that have high homicide rates, removing them from the statistics, and then comparing them with whole countries without doing the same, do you really think that provides an accurate picture ? It is a golden rule in statistical analyses, it's a bit like me saying ''well if I disregard all my credit card debts and loans, then I owe nothing to anyone and that person over there who owed half as much as me is more in debt than me'' it makes for nonsense results. Andy
  23. I think the video is sending a mixed message, I think people mean very different things when they talk about Guns in the U.S.A. The video is talking about gun ownership then comparing it to murder per capita (this is not the same as murder per gun per capita) , almost defending against an accusation that has not been made. When people (at least in Europe) talk about gun crime in America they are talking about the availability of guns rather that the murder rate per capita. The news here from the U.S.A. is normally filled with school shootings and the like, where a semi automatic weapon has been used to kill people on a large scale, people are aware that such people are not sane but wonder if they could have killed as many at that time if they hadn't had a gun so freely available. Here we have had school killings, insane people wanting to kill, but normally on a much lower scale if you have knife for instance you are more likely to kill just the person you have grievance against and anyone who gets in your way, and fatalities even after a personal attack are lower. Figures show is that in America if you are a victim of homicide the murder weapon is much more likely to have been a gun than anywhere else in the world, that though is an expected figure in a country that has more guns per capita than anywhere else. So if the argument is 'If I am a victim of homicide in the U.S.A. I am more likely to have been killed by a gun than anywhere else in the world' then that is correct. IF however the argument is 'I am more likely to get murdered in the U.S.A. than anywhere else, then that clearly is not correct' Also I think the video plays fast and loose with statistics he then goes back to Plano, a place awash with guns (or he gives that impression) comments of how low the murder rate is, removes the worse places in the U.S.A. from his figures then says .. hey we would be even lower in the rankings!!. and compares that figure to 'murderous Belgium's ' without affording Belgium the same mathematical and statistical wizardry as he's afforded the U.S.A. The bottom line is no one thinks that owning a gun per say makes you insane, but that the availability of such weapons makes tragedy's like the school shootings more possible. All in all he makes a good point that America is not the murder capital of the world (per capita) but then again I wouldn't compare a modern democracy with the likes of north African countries amid tribal disputes and civil war.
