A person needs to truly love them self in order to deeply and genuinely love another person. Love is unconditional where liking someone is more shallow. You can like a casual friend. Love is more of a commitment than liking a friend. When you love a person they may play a more important part in your life. There are different types of love. A love you have for your mother and father,a love you have for your fellow Christian and a love you have for a girlfriend/boyfriend or a spouse. You can like a person because they are just fun to be around but the feelings do not go any deeper.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. You would have to like someone in order to love them. Although the Bible does say that we are to pray for our enemies. Those toxic people. Can we like someone who we do not respect? The Bible says to love our enemies? Is that humanly possible? People who have abused us?

God sees him as a person who needs salvation, who is helpless and overcome with darkness and sin.  He doesn't like being around them either since he hates the sin.  But He loves the sinner and sent His Son to die for them.  We can have a pitying love for the person who has been abusive but not like them at all.  We like or dislike on basis of what they do.  We love because Christ lives in us.

I think that we should give a kind word to those who are unkind to us. I do not think two wrongs make a right. I think that a person should know their boundaries and stay as far away as possible from toxic people and people who make us unhappy. God wants us to be at peace. There is enough grief in our world without having to put ourselves in the path of these people.
