I have also read a cubit is 24 inches. I don't know which is right not sure anyone does.

I think the 24" thing came from someone trying to make Noah's Ark bigger.

That could be. I know for a long time I thought it was held together with the pitch that Noah use to keep it from leaking.  Later I found it was probably held together with nails.

I was doing some checking and I think 18" is the most used measurement for a cubit like you said.

I am watching a move on you tube called "On the traces of an ancient civilization" It explains the famous cubit which is 52 " long. you can see it at 1 hour and 2minites the explanation is

only 10 minutes long. Very interesting. let me know what you think.

The only time I was able to go to the fair (12) as a child we went in a tent to see their Giant and I remember he took off his ring and could  put a 50 cent coin through it . pretty big finger.

They used to sell those( his) rings as souveniers- I actually still have one til this day,I'll have to find it if I can and take a photo     I remember it well,I remember it would have fit my teeny wrist if I were able to get my hand through it back then because I tried to,🫣

Not sure if there was a really standardized cubit back in the day. People were also generally shorter than today, so I'd lean toward the shorter cubit.

Exactly- it reminds me of measuring horses height in 'hands" ....of course it has been long standardized as precisely 4" but "in the beginning" lol it was simply hand over hand measuring -my Dad's hand was certainly not 4inches,mine is slightly smaller than 4inches

Funny thing,isn't it?❤️

I just watched a documentary and it covered the cubit and the royal cubit which turn out to be one meter long over 300 yrs before the meter was in existence.

The top two images have been shown to be a hoax.  I don't know about the lower two.

A cubit back then was 18 inches thus 4.333 cubits is roughly 6 feet and 6 inches.

6'6" was impressively tall back then; I read that the typical Israelite barely reached 5'.

That was the Egyptian royal cubit, which was the biggest one in use. .  Given the stature of Israelites and their neighbors back then, a cubit in Palestine could have been as short as 16".

So it's a question whether Israel used the same cubit as all their neighbors, or used the royal Egyptian cubit that came from people no one really liked.
