Reducing the opportunities to commit sin slows the behavior but it does not eliminate the internal bondage that is there.  The key is to (eventually) find spiritual freedom from the bondage.  Making deals with God, promises, setting goals and resolutions are ultimately an attempt to try to stoke up our our willpower, self-control, and resolution to try to deal with sin under our own strength and capabilities.  The gospel is about being changed and transformed so that sin no longer has a hold on us.  Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).  It is not something we stoke up with our own determination or by taking classes in techniques to get our life in order.  It is something that naturally grows from us as we grow, mature, and become strengthened spiritually.

Many Christians struggle with addictions and compulsive behaviors.  There are really two things that need to be done with these things.  The first is to mitigate the damage.  For example, someone addicted to alcohol or drugs simply needs to get away from them to avoid potential physical dangers and protect themselves.  For someone addicted to porn, eliminating access will help.  But notice that while this will reduce opportunities for failure, it doesn't solve the root problem.  There is still a draw and lure there.  An alcoholic stranded on a desert island will not be drinking.  However, as soon as the opportunity presents itself, the problem will reassert itself.   The real issue is finding freedom from the lure and temptation so that it no longer has an effect on us.  Being free from porn is not so much about constantly fighting it and not yielding to temptation; it is about not caring that it is available because it has no draw on us.

Over the years, I've come to the conclusion that sins we commit are more often symptoms of a deeper root problem inside of us.  Sometimes God's biggest priority for change in our life is not what we are most concerned about.  My observations of things in my life and stories I've heard from others suggest to me that God goes after this stuff in our life in a few different ways.  Sometimes the simple gradual process of spiritual growth causes things to just slowly fall away over time.  Sometimes God does something miraculous and the urge to do something just simply vanishes.  Other times, God carries out some type of healing in our life that frees us from things.

The biggest question is what is God's priority for you to work on right now.  Is it focusing more on spiritual disciplines such as prayer, Bible reading, meditation, or being around other Christians more?  Is there some change of lifestyle God wants you to make?  Are you carrying emotional and spiritual wounds and injuries that need healing?  This might be something to talk to an experienced pastor or good Christian counselor about.

God's call on our lives is usually not based on avoidance to get away from things.  God's call on our lives is to move forward in the right direction with Him.  Instead of focusing on what God wants us to be doing to grow and move forward, we often spend our time worrying and feeling guilty over what we shouldn't be doing.   Instead of focusing on how we can grow spiritually (so such things as the fruit of the Spirit naturally flow from our lives), we worry about trying to manage sin and problems on our own.  Many Christians have things backwards.  We don't become spiritually mature because we manage to eliminate sin from our lives by our own efforts.   Sin disappears from our lives because God transforms us and causes us to spiritually grow and mature as we draw closer to Him.

Yes, He loves you. And not only that, He knows your heart very well and He knows that those thoughts do not reflect it, but are being imposed by "intruders".

These thoughts are like when there are people around you making "fun" of you, that is what it is doing to you. Do not pay attention to it, in Jesus' name.

This is just another thing that is common to happen as well. Do not worry, you are forgiven in Jesus' name.

Just as you see, these thoughts make us to believe that we should have to do things that are contrary to God. Do not obey it, you don't have to.

God does not want you to be a slave of those thoughts, He wants you to have a peaceful mind, that will only think about His pure words and promises.

Then I strongly suggest you start reading the Bible, I know you are already doing it, but keep doing it and thinking about it during the day. Start from the New Testament.

And very important: Forget your sins, forgive yourself. If anything tries to condemn you because of your past actions then rebuke it in Jesus' name and say "The Lord Jesus forgave and paid for my sins on the cross". Just receive the Lord Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." - Romans 5:1-2

And just seek to live with Him daily, read the Bible, and ask the Lord Jesus to guide you each day. If you sin, do not worry, just confess it and He will forgive you.

And then you will learn that sin is a waste of time, it gives you nothing good in return. But with the Lord Jesus you will have life, peace, love, faith, and everything you need to overcome all things.

"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock." - Matthew 7:24-25

And I tell you this from experience, just 1 year ago I was in the same situation as you with the mind completely disturbed, with no peace. Then I tell you, it may not happen overnight, but you will overcome this with the Lord Jesus. And you will start to feel better in much less time, I assure you.

God bless you, in Jesus' name!

Thank you so much for your answer!!! It really helped me! But still, it is hard to deal with those thoughts which I have. For example, i was reading a book about how to find a way to God. I  had to go to school, so I dressed up and went. When I was leaving house i had an obsession that i cannot lock the gate to our house. I didn't lock the gate and i felt extremely guilty that i listen t my false message from my brain and i didn't listen to God.  Normally i would close the door. I wanted to apologize to God. But first, before i apologize to him i showed to my dad the book, which i was reading (how to find way to God is the name of the book). So I first showed him the book and read something from it. Than i got extremely big anxiety because i felt guilty that i didn't first apologize to God. I didn't pray first. So thought jumped in my head that if i am going to continue reading this book, God won't forgive me.  Also that i will be stupid after i read something from it. Today afternoon i wanted to read the book. I have just looked at the cover of the book and i realized that i have already read something from it. Also just that i have looked at the cover means already that i have read something from it. So now there is no way God could forgive. Please tell me am i out of my mind? I feel like really obsessive-compulsive disorder is playing with me and trying to make me not believing in God, but I really don't want that.

What should I do know? I think there is no purpose in life anymore when God didn't forgive me. I have almost anxiety attacks, feel depressed, please help me! Thank you so much for your previous answers, I really appreciate it. You know I am going through really hard time and you helping me so much, but this what has happened today really scared me and make so anxious. Thank you so much!

God bless you!

God forgives. And think more realistically, do you really think this is something indeed serious?

Because it is clear that it does not negatively affect anything. It is just detail of our everyday life, and it insists in using those details to try to remove your peace.

"For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints." - 1 Corinthians 14:33

What the Lord Jesus expects from you is that you stay with Him, and leave all the doubts and problems to Him.

He is willing to forgive you anytime you want.

This is an attack to let you down and depressed, so you won't feel to seek the Lord Jesus.

But do not pay attention, rebuke it in Jesus' name, and say you are with Him.

"Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down." - Revelation 12:10

If you are with the Lord Jesus then you are safe.

"Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ,
so that whether I come and see you or am absent,
I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit,
with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,
and not in any way terrified by your adversaries,
which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation,
and that from God." - Philippians 1:27-28

Peace to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. He loves you more than you can imagine.

Thank you so much again for your answer! You are right that I need to think more realistically.Sometimes it is really hard when I have blasphemous thoughts. I am trying to get it under control. Thank you so much!

God bless you!

Hi,

first of all as humans we are unable to make any promise sinds we don't even know how tomorrow will be. Second, pornography is an addiction and a sign of frustration. It's frustrating to see others having those beautiful women and we don't. Most of the problems in the world's history is because of lust of women lol.

So for my perspective you should first stop promising what you can't handle and try to find mental peace. Try to have a healthy relationship with yourself and others.

Having sexual feelings is totally natural. What do you think Adam felt when he saw Eve?

Now it a thing to have normal sexual feelings for the woman we love and want to live with and it's another to feel it because of frustrated sensuality.

Be in peace with yourself and deliver you from culpability.

Yes, it is. Because you know it is against your beliefs, otherwise you would welcome it wholeheartedly.

And please, seek to purify your mind by reading the Bible, praying, and meditating on good things.

"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you." - Ephesians 4:31-32

The Lord Jesus will give you what you need.

"Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking,
as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious." - 1 Peter 2:1-3

Welcome!

Ok true, but trying to treat that by making the person feel bad and shameful isn't the way of Jesus taught us. In stead as this brother is exposing himself and have the will to change, it is our obligation as brothers to treat him with love, comprehension and kindness ;)

All love for him, and for you as well. But zero love for a carnal mentality.

And Jesus taught us how we should be dedicated in removing evil from us.

"And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.
It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye,
rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire" - Mark 9:47

And I had to answer to your comment with that same tolerance, to avoid that anyone be comfortable with their sins.

"He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad." - Matthew 12:30

If any are serious about overcoming evil, then I kindly suggest you read this: https://www.worthychristianforums.com/topic/215968-overcoming-evil/. I hope it helps you.

"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith." - 1 John 5:4

God bless you, in Jesus' name!
