But remember, when the Spirit fell on the household of Cornelius and they spoke in tongues, there is no indication whatsoever given that there was anyone there who understood the languages they spoke, nor is there indication that anyone was interpreting what was being said.

The passage only states that the people spoke in tongues!

verse??

You know sis as I have said before, I have no problem at all with those who "speak in tongues" I do however have a huge problem with those who pervert the gospel by claiming tongues is a must if the Holy Spirit is in you.

God Bless,

Dave

Receving the Holy Spirit and baptism in the Holy Spirit are two different things. It all boils down to a few things. I do believe what most people don't. And in the end it won't matter a hill of beans who believes what...............if you believe Jesus Christ is your savior and you live for Him, then you are saved.

Tongues or not................there were no additional laws placed on your salvation. If you're heart is right, then you are saved.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Really?? Can you show biblical support for these statements? Specifically the difference between recieving the HS and being Baptized in the HS.

God Bless,

Dave

Thanks, Dwink. I was going to ask for the verses on that myself.

........the pentecostals do have extreme break off churches that practice rituals and beliefs that are not Bible based.

Unfortunately, it is not only pentecostal churches that practice rituals and beliefs that are not bible based. I've seen it in several 'denominations'. In fact, i'd go so far as to say that most churches have 'broken off' in just accepting denomination names, there were no denominations in the early church. I've been to churches that have said that you cant take communion if you're not baptized, how about baptizing infants, or baptizing people for those who have already passed away unsaved, etc etc etc. we could go on forever.

Bottom line is, the bible does not teach that someone is not saved if they're not 'filled with the spirit/speaking in tongues'. anyone who insinuates that, is wrong, not that anyone here has... yet. and a person isnt any more or less saved because they do or do not speak in tongues.

Ok in the other thread things drifted off into the mention of tongues, and WhySoBlind stated that all who recieve the Holy Spirit are evidenced so by speaking in tongues.

I hope I am misreading or drawing incorrect conclusions here.

It would follow that anybody who doesn't speak in tongues isn't a Christian.

I do believe that it was not meant here that someoen who doenst speak in tongues is not a Christian. But that you KNOW if someone has 'received the Holy Spirit' if they speak in tongues. Again not implying that if you dont speak in tongues you're not 'spirit filled'

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

agreed. God never asks you to go into passivity and pray unknowingly. People who speak gibberish is not speaking tongues. Tongues are discernable amonst each other as shown in the bible. the book of Acts comes to mind.

Tongues is a real spiritual gift

It's not the only spiritual gift

you don't need to speak tongues to be spiritual

God loves us all,

This is Acts 10:44-46.

But I don't necessarily agree with Nebula's interpretation. The jews present knew that the gentiles were magnifying God, so they must have had some understanding of what was being spoken.

You know . . .

You guys keep making me feel like I have to keep my mouth shut unless it's in English or unless I know there is someone in the room who understands whatever language it is that comes out of my mouth. Nor am I allowed to pray outloud in anything other than English.

What's the use then?

I'm very sorry Nebula, I wasn't trying to negate your gift. 1 Cor 14:39 "do not forbid speaking in tongues". I just didn't necessarily agree with your interpretation of that particular verse, I would never presume to tell you that talking to God in "tongues" is wrong.

I have to agree I see nothing there that shows they did not understand, actually quite the contrary as you say they knew what they were saying was magnifying God.

Actually Neither would I, as I have stated many times now, if speaking in tongues helps strengthen your relationship with our saviour then have at it. To me it ranks right there with pray reading, I see no Biblical precedence for it but also see no danger in it. Some will say you are opening yourself up to Satan, but God is stronger then he who opposes us.

God Bless,

Dave

Again I ask, what is the difference between a gift and an annointing?
