Hmmm...this discussion of Christian has struck a chord with me on something the Lord has been speaking to me about..

Artists have rendered images of Jesus and of God, The Father, yet has anyone ever seen an image of the Holy Spirit??

About the closest thing I can think of is that Michanangelo painting with the spark that breathes life into Adam.

Interesting how the Trinity defnes all three members as "persons" yet no body seems to know (or is capable of imagining) what the Holy Spirit looks like.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The spark that breaths life into Adam?

So you believe his image of Christ was given to him by God?

Why would He do that?

"...you shall not bow down to them or serve them." Deut. 5:9

Do people who bow to statues of Mary talk to her? Do they entreet her to interceed for them? Is there still a veil between us and God that we need any other high priest to interceed for us except Jesus? Do you run to the name of Mary when you are in need? Is it her name that is above all other names? Or Jude or Christopher or any other person lifted up higher that God. Jesus is the only name on heaven or earth whereby man can be saved. Jesus is Lord of all. Jesus took away the veil at calvary and now we can go boldly to the throne of grace ourselves and speak directly to the Lord. We can ask anything in His name and it shall be done. No one elses name, just Jesus.

Do you pray to the statue of Jesus?

God is not a statue. He is Spirit, He is life. He is love. He will lead you into all truth when you yield to His leading and open up your heart to all He has to say in His word regardless of what you have been taught. He is the One who is able to show you the Truth.

The fact that these things even exist...can anyone justify them?

Are there any teachings that promote idolatry?

There are many that teach against it.

Any form of art reflects the beliefs of the artist. Thus, paintings and such made by Believers reflect their impression of what God, the Father and Jesus look like.

Yet, you never see any paintings of the Holy Spirit. :)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You didn't answer my question.

Do you really believe that God gave us this image of Himself?

If you look hard enough, you will find pictures that portray the Holy Spirit.

If you would be so kind, please reply to my question.

I did answer your question. You just evidently misunderstood the answer. :24:

Any Believer who, for example, paints a picture of God, is reflecting whatever image the Holy spirit has given him or her.

NOW. Would you answer a question of mine?

Where is there a "picture that portrays the Holy Spirit"?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That's not true. The artwork and statues we see today that depict God were not inspired by the Holy Spirit. If you truly believe that, you are walking a very dangerous path.

Now for the pictures of the Holy Spirit. The only descriptions we have of the Holy Spirit are those of a dove. Google Holy Spirit pictures and you'll find thousands of them.

You might want to rethink your views on christian art where God is concerned. Or you can just blow it off. your choice.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think that these folks are worshipping the statues?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

SamInService makes an interesting point. Idols are not necessarily what people bow down to. And just because people bow down to them does not necessarily mean that those objects are being worshipped. I think any idol, or any god for that matter, is something that you absolutely cannot live without. You dwell on it, you are controlled by it, you come when it beckons. When you worship something, you give it your undivided attention. To your object of worship, you do snot simply offer a couple of prayers, a bow, and then leave. It's a part of you- it consumes your every thought, every being.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

:) you are describing my wife before we got married. Some idols even breathe......

If you're not serious about this, there's no point in going on.

All your christian artwork?

You can believe what you want to believe.

I can back up my beliefs, can you?

All I ask is that you stick to facts, not assumptions.

You may factually state that there are statues and pictures representing saints and Jesus in my Church.

You may even say that some people kneel in front of these statues at times.

You may not say anyone is worshipping idols; that implies you know their heart.

You don't.

I might say since you spend so much time here at WB---it is an idol to you.

But I would not....I don't know your heart.

You might say that I am so puffed up with pride that I am my own idol---but you do not know my heart.

If you were in my Church, you may even witness me (today for example) kiss my fingertips and press them to the feet of the life-size Crucifix on the wall. You may say I'm worshipping idols.

But you don't know my heart.

I know the difference between a wooden depiction and the Living Lord. I am using a symbolic gesture to show my love as I say to the true and living Jesus, "Forgive me for my sins that nailed You to that cross. I love you my Jesus. Thank you for loving me so much that You died for me."

You don't know my heart.

Love,

Fiosh

As I said before, any form of art, secular or christian, that depicts the image of God is wrong.

If you would like scripture to back this up, I will do that for you.

As for worshiping them, I'm not even going down that road. I've made my stance on idols known, so it's only fair to assume... :emot-hug:

I'm not bad mouthing artists, just some of there creations.

No point in playing "dueling Scriptures". :(

I respect your beliefs. Please believe that I worship God alone.

******************************

I'm listening to the radio; they're playing that beautiful song with the lyrics:

"...the maker of heaven and earth calls me "friend". And from the joy this brings, Oh how my spirit sings!"

That should be enough for any of us, shouldn't it?

God bless you,

Fiosh
