This weekend my husband and I received the news from our 28 year old daughter and her significant other that they were expecting a child. We are still trying to wrap our minds around this, as we are a very traditional family, and never in a million years thought this would happen to one of our three daughters. Family converged into town this weekend to celebrate the baptism of our first and only grandson, so the news was difficult as we were trying to focus on our daughter, her husband and their baby boy. I know its not right but I cannot move beyond feeling anything but shame and embarrassment for our family, for our daughter and her sisters. She has been with her boyfriend for nearly 7 years and the news we were expecting was a proposal announcement not this. I know how I feel when I hear the news of children being born out of wedlock and its crushing that we are confronted with this now. I am asking for prayers in the hope that we can move on and be supportive of our daughter and this new baby. Has anyone else dealt with this and have any advice. I'm dreading the task of having to tell friends, family etc. I know I shouldn't care about what others think or feel but I do. I'm do devastated and don't know what to do.... Please help.

Shalom Rhen,

Welcome to Worthy Christian Forums. Please feel free to browse around and get to know everyone. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.  As soon as you post a few times and after they are approved, it'll tell us that you are "real" person and not a "bot", you'll be free to post throughout our forums and join our chat rooms.  Forgive us for this minor inconvenience, however, we've had issues in the past with Spammers!

This is a short tutorial video of how to get started with Worthy Christian Forums.

As soon as you get out of Newbie status, you'll be able to add your profile picture.

You may be interested in reading how WCF functions, and how the forums are set up, and other neat tricks to the forums.  Read our insights into WCF.

Let me share a little bit of my vision for the ministry in a parable.

Let's say I'm throwing a big party and am inviting the world to the party (the forums) and I want everyone to have a great time, eating (reading through posts being fed), drinking (being encouraged to walk in His Word), and having fellowship with one another.  In Israel, we have Shabbat meals -- and whenever you have 2 Jews -- you have 3 opinions -- it's GREAT to be opinionated.  I encourage discussions ... but during our Shabbat meals ... we never ever get to the point in disagreements whereby food is being tossed and seriously yelling takes place!  And if someone comes into the meal ... and starts throwing food ... and yells at everyone -- what do you suppose the head of the Shabbat meal will do?  He'll escort those causing problems out of the house!  Why?  Because the whole reason for the gathering was to learn from one another ... to have a great time of fellowship!

Some people like to constantly throw food and yell ... they won't last on Worthy ... because they missed the point of the party ... it's a prequel to the true party -- the Lamb's Supper!

All I'm trying to provide is a place to allow true fellowship ... and discussions in love ... in the hopes it will be a catalyst for true REVIVAL based on REPENTANCE!

I hope you have a blessed time at Worthy!

I am praying for you and your family.  My sister got pregnant at the age of 18 out of wedlock.  My mother was devastated.  She never got over what she perceived to be an affront to her.  Everyone was influenced by her bitterness.  She alienated this child and my sister. The ramifications of her bitterness are still felt to this day.   This child grew up to be a wonderful man and father.  Praise God that a beautiful child will be born into this world.  Celebrate this child that God knew would be coming into this world.  Be close to your daughter during this pregnancy and birth.  She needs you!

Somewhat more than 2000 years ago a young unmarried girl became pregnant … she was shunned by neighbours and could have been put to death by the man she was betrothed to . He had compassion and stayed with her  and now over 2000 years later we STILL celebrate the birth of that child  This is NOT about you but may be Gods way of showing you how much you lack compassion towards others How can you justify praising one illegitimate child and condemning another ?  SHAME ON YOU    praying for you daughter, her parntner and the child they will have and love even if you don't

Hi Rhen,

Yes, you can post a prayer request on the forums. I understand the embarrassment that you're facing with your daughter having a child before marriage. It's sadly disappointing for your entire family perhaps, as you've indicated. I'm so sorry this is breaking your heart over the matter also. Try to understand, in this day and age it has become rather common place for this occur. The most important thing for her right now, is to be open for the Lord to minister to her and become her Saviour if He hasn't yet. She needs to come to Him, and so does her boyfriend. Praying for you, and welcome to Worthy. God bless.

Shalom,

David/BeauJangles

I was born to a young mom and then taken by social services folk. Nasty. I was bounced all over the place.

God is not as concerned as you are. Did the couple have a 'social marriage'? A piece of paper proves nothing. I just got divorced so I know that it means little. In God's eyes is the most important thing and your sense of shame will transfer to mom and baby if you do not take care.

We are all less than perfect and I guess God is more concerned with gossip than an unwed mother.

Treat them all with care and compassion and just be true to your Savior.

I have never said He wasn't Gods son but  by human definition He was not " legitimate " and His mother suffered scorn and disgrace just the same as other unmarried women would have done Praise God she had the courage to continue and the faith that God would take care of her It has not been that way for all unmarried women who have faced rejection by those that should love them yet those same people who condemn a child born without the benefit of " marriage " worship a child born in ( from human view point ) the same way  Even Joseph her espoused was of a mind to put her away quietly as he was not a cruel man and married her only after God sent a messenger to him

Jesus is the Father's own Son.  Deity is not to be explained.  It is to be adored.   The Sonship of Christ is to be accepted  as a truth of revelation, to be apprehended by faith.

Forgive the slight edit. Just a comment here. Amen on that. Our Saviour was conceived of the Holy Ghost, and from God the Father. Jesus is Lord over all. This is Trinity. Hallelujah!
